OK folks, it's official. Today ROYALLY sucks.
« on: February 15, 2008, 02:14:56 pm »
So last night I was up with insomnia until 5am... not pleasant.  I took double my normal amount of neurontin in a futile effort to provide some mild sedation, as I have no actual sleeping pills.  Maybe I should keep some on hand, but the problem is that if I had a bottle I wouldn't use them when needed... I'd pop them all at once because I'm a pill whore.  Or at least that's the theory.  I've suffered from insomnia now for 8 years, and it really really sucks.

Then to make matters worse, at 7:30 am I woke to THE MOST EXCRUCIATING painful cramp in my lower left leg.  I thought I was dreaming about it at first, but it was so bad I had to get up out of bed and walk around to make it stop, which took a good 15 minutes.  By that time I just made a pot of coffee and said fuck it.

Now, I just think I broke a toe running into the middle stainless steel leg of my *fake* Florence Knoll sofa.  I broke a toe in both '03 and '05 so I'm not sure if I'm just exceptionally careless or if I have brittle bones from AZT... that's the primary worry which I took from those recent hand-wringing articles about aging prematurely with AIDS.

More likely I'm just a moron though.

Oh   my   God.  I have to jump out of bed almost nightly with those damn cramps.  It seems like I am just rested and wham!  I have broken nearly every toe, the big one on the left foot being in the permanent "bent" position.  And here I thought I was the only one. ::)

I think I definitely put a hairline fracture in my toe, just like 2 years ago.  I swear it must be the neurontin that makes me lose my balance and run into things.

Generally I feel I'm doing great HIV-treatment wise, and numerically I am on paper.  But damn if there still aren't all of these residual issues from those nasty first generation meds in the early 90's that just are NOT ever going to go away for a select group of us.

Betty, we have so many similar ailments I think I'm going to become a lesbian and shack up with you.  I hope you're ready.

Been there done that..still coping with two of them.

Here's my solutions:

Insomnia..nitrazeam, can't sleep without it

Cramps everynight..get up, light up do a few laps around the coffee table in the lounge then back to bed.

Haven't broken my toe in a while but when I did I limped around for a few days, cursed everyone that got in my way until the pain subsided...not so good for them but it worked for me.. ;)

Maybe you, Betty and I should move in together at least we would have someone to talk to in the middle of the night.. ;D

Hugs

We should at least have a few pajama parties.  Yes, David, the way those meds were used 'back in the day' zapped a lot of us.  I haven't been outside barefoot in eons.  In the summer, I try to lay out every day.  Well, usually I am barefoot.  If I get up, to get a cig or something, I feel like I'm walking on a cheese grater.  We do have a lot of issues in common.

Sometimes I get cramps in my fingers.  That's just started within the last few months.

Dear David...so sorry to hear about your insomnia, your toe and cramps.  I guess they don't do anything for a broken toe, just let it heal on its own, is that true?  Not to put a kibosh on myself but I have never had a broken bone.

For cramps I have found that all I can do is just lie there, they come at night in bed sometimes in my calf or rarely, both calves.  If I get up and put weight on them I find I have pain for a few days so I keep it lifted and after a few minutes or so they go away, thanks to a higher power already  ;)

I can't take ambien during the week or I would never wake up for work so I usually just have one on weekend nights when I can sleep for 8 to 10 hours which is blissful.

Feel better.

Jody, about the only thing one can do for a broken toe is to get a popsicle stick and tape the broken toe to the toe next to it.

I wish I could continue to lie there when a cramp hits me, but it feels like someone's in my skin, just twisting.  It's such writhing pain.  And it's very inconvenient.  I hate being woke up in the middle of a good sleep with one of those damn cramps and have to hurridly get out of bed.

David, I am sorry to read of the mishap with your toe.

It does make perfect sense to me that after a pot of coffee you would be moving a bit fast when your toe met with the sofa leg.
Ouch.

See, that's what'd happen when you have a fake Knoll...

Do take care though Philly... insomnia is truly hellish.

The fake Knoll isn't bad looking... seriously.  I do own 3 authentic Eames pieces :)

ps:  it's 5:00 am and I'm WIDE AWAKE.  I crashed on the sofa from 11pm - 1:30am, making me rather late in my med dosing, which is a rarity for me but I'm not stressing over it.

Maybe I should masturbate again.
