Condom used for two acts.

Hello and thanks in advance for response.

I am a male who recently had sex with a partner with far more experience(partners) and to assume was HIV+ as I also do. We used safe sex and used a condom. The condom was used for oral first and then for vagina intercourse in various positions. The condom worked well, held up as I saw the semen at the tip, and she removed it with her bare hands and discarded it. Later I read that a new condom should be used for EACH sexual act. Should a new condom been used after oral before intercourse?

I have believe there is little to no risk but will still get a regular test performed. So my questions are:

1) What is my risk

2) Does a new condom need to be used after oral, vaginal, etc.

3) Can an accurate test be performed after one month? (I have read various window periods and want to confirm)

Jay,

1 - You didn't have a risk. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv transmission.

2 - Technically, yes. This is to prevent breakage. Your condom did not break. It's very noticeable when they do.

3 - No. The window period is three months when there has been an actual risk. You did not have a risk.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you do NOT need to test over this specific incident, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Sorry, one more question about transmittal. If the condom is in tact may I continue to use the same one after oral? I would assume that frequently changing condoms could lead to more exposure to fluids/vaginal fluids. I think that may be over thinking as I have seen from previous responses that hiv is very fragile.

Jay,

Yes, you can use the same condom for vaginal as you did for oral. It's mainly prolonged anal intercourse that can wear a condom out.

Keep using condoms for intercourse (by the way, you don't need a condom for getting your dick sucked. Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection) and having routine check-ups and you'll be fine where hiv is concerned. Really.

I was reading your how to use condoms link from your signature. I just wanted to verify the best process of removing a condom and cleaning up. Is there any risk of removing the condom with hands that have vaginal fluids on them. I ask because after taking of the condom I will wipe the semen from the urethra with my hands which may still have fluids on them.

No there is no risk of taking off a condom, even if vaginal fluid is on the condom.

New Question:
I have a new question, but I Think i read to keep all my questions on the same thread.

My previous relationship ended w/ the previously described situation. It was witha girl of uknown status(assume positive) but was not at risk because a condom was used.

I have since started a new relationship, and we each got tested in order to start a monogomous relationship and have unprotected sex. My only concern was that when I tested the last act of protected sex with the previous woman was only 4 weeks before I tested. Test was negative.

I may be worrying needlessly. But if I was at risk, how accurate is that 4 week test. I just want to be certain before I start having unprotected sex w/ a great girl and great relationship.

Think i might be worrying needlessly because i wasn't really at risk in the first place.

It was in part a test taken because I was doing my annual physical. Not sure what type of HIV test it was if it matters.

Your test result is conclusive as long as it was done three months after your last incident of UNPROTECTED intercourse.

Do you think couples where one partner is poz and one neg test each and every time they have PROTECTED intercourse? No, they don't. I was in such a relationship myself for over eight years. He was still hiv negative when we split - because we used condoms. Condoms prevent hiv transmission.

Thank you for your help. I know this was no risk but because of starting a new relationship, still tested and wanted to let those interested as a follow up who come to this forum that the test was negative as expected.
