Hi EG

cant watch it on my browser, get an error message from the BBC itself, "we're having a spring clean and this page might be lost". I'll try from work though looks like it's a problem on the site itself.

but i will watch when I can & Big Thank You Ann for doing this for us!

Now it makes me really really want to watch the show. Hope something will upload it somewhere.

It is a great segment Ann and it was a great call to have Fry read from your blog - the power of good writing can be amplified wonderfully by a great thoughtful voice.

It still is being shown tonight cliff at 9pm i think it is. They just didn't decide to include ann's interview, i have no idea why though! It's been included on the bbc website instead along with a few others.

Um, you're welcome! :)

It seems to be viewable only on RealPlayer. I tried to go back and choose the Windows Media Player, but it won't let me, despite deleting cookies. It was only when I totally removed RealPlayer from my computer that I also started getting the error message.

So, unless and until they fix the issue with Windows Media Player, you'll have to have RealPlayer installed on your computer to view the five films.

I can't believe they squashed around three hours of interview time into two and a half minutes. I was expecting it to be a little longer.

As a former producer and writer for news programs I can guarantee you that this segment is already long as it seems with all the music and editing they did include yours in the original show but then for whatever reasons decided not to, though now it's part of the docu's "bonus materials" they definitely could have made it longer.

BRAVO!.  Well done, Ann.

Even on my little old dial-up here in the far northern reaches of the Sacramento Valley, I could see and hear my friend Ann talk HIV.  We are indeed neighbors.

Maybe I'm just a cold hearted SOB, but Ann, unlike the others - you did not bring a single tear to my eye. What I did get though were several moments of reinforcement in my mind of why I respect you.  I also got from you a clear cut lesson on how to speak about HIV and AIDS in a public setting.

Some quotes that had an immediately reverberation in me:

(probably misquoted) "It all goes back to the sex thing where people say you must have done something to deserve it,  but they wouldn't say that about someone with diabetes."

"I am not ashamed of it.  At the end of the day sex is something that everybody does; it's hardwired into our brains."

"It's no good thinking if so and so wasn't there...It's not risk groups, it's risk activities."

Ann,

What I loved most was seeing you walking along the shore - contemplative and sure of yourself - I'm proud to know you and I'm proud to have you to be a public face and voice of all of us.

No.  I definitely didn't tear up a bit, Sorry.

I did however get a renewed sense of my responsibility to others and more importantly to myself to not hide my status for fears or self shame.

Thank you.

Mark

I don't want to rain on the Ann parade here.  But out of the five listed interviews on the web site there's a rather noticeable absence of HIV+ gay men isn't there?  What's up with that?

I haven't watched the program in full, but I will be doing so tonight.

Philly,I believe the answer to your question is that the program is trying to get away from the stereotypical image of a person with HIV.

That was my point.  In doing such things we often forget such numbers like in NYC a full quarter of the gay population is infected with HIV, and even more so that it's hitting young gay boys in the age range of 13-19.

I had just read the cover story in NY Press last night

http://www.nypress.com/issue.cfm

... so this was all at the top of my mind.  While I think it's very important to portray ALL sectors of society that this disease is infecting, I don't think we should lose track of the overall numbers as well as the proportion of those same numbers vis-a-vis the effected communities.

I will be interested in light of this subject to see how Mr. Fry handles the topic, but to be honest I'm not encouraged from what I just saw on the BBC web site.

I will withhold any judgement until I've seen the entire program though.
