Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Can you get esophagitis 23 days after infection?

Hello all
to be brief, I had a protected encounter with a transsexual on june 28th, I was the bottom. I wasnt sure if there was slippage.
Anyway, 23 days later, I had a  soar throat and a week after soar throat was there with chest pain. I had some whiteness on tongue too.
I checked online and read about candida esophagitis and was thinking thats what I might be having during seroconversion.
I am going to test again  soon but I need to know how likely can I be infected and have candida esophagitis?
I did visit my physician and was told I have a sinus infection, but I am still very worried my worries might be true.
Any advice might be appreciated.

By "slippage" do you mean that she wore a condom? Please be more specific about your risk so we can do a good assessment.

Yes, she was wearing a condom and when we were finished, she took it off infront of me and I filled it with water to make sure there wasnt any breakage.  I still have a soar throat and some chest pain till now.

Symptoms are useless in determining HIV infection, Sal.

It sounds as though the condom did its job and you were protected. Follow up with a doctor to see what might be the cause of your sore throat and chest pain, as it is not HIV related.

I do have to add a comment though. 10 weeks before I tested, I performed unprottected oral on a male that told me he was hiv negative. But I tested negative on that test and I ruled that encounter out .

While it's true that anybody can get thrush- with or without HIV- it's always been my understanding that esophageal thrush is an opportunistic infection that tends to strike once t-cells are already particularly low.

And as somebody who has had esophageal thrush, I tell you it's more than just a sore throat.

Brent's right:  this isn't HIV related.
