HIV Sucks
« on: June 29, 2012, 01:44:37 am »
Okay now that I have your attention.  I am grateful for all the meds and all the support that we have now but hey it still sucks.  I have come to grips with things and yes there are lots of pills in my future that have to be taken at a certain time with a certain amount of food and if I do not do that then they do not work or I have massive uncontrolable shits... Yeah that is a great thing.

I had no idea Complera was so restrictive. I take Norvir, Prezista, Isentress and Truvada twice a day with no dietary restrictions except for grapefruit.

My shits are quite controllable and my viral load is undetectable. Are you having massive problems with Complera? I know initial side effects can cause a rough few weeks, but in this day / age a newly diagnosed person really shouldn't suffer so.

Have you spoken to your doctor?

Have you tried any of the tricks to regulate that stuff? For some folks, can't acid tablets (Tums) work, for me it's been loads of fiber. Metamucil makes a tasty fiber cookie.

This forum and the ferret rescue forums are the only ones I belong to, and both of them seem to have one thing in common; poop discussions

If you are in countries where you have some options as for drug combinations, and additional medicines, some of the side effects you two are having or worrying about can be avoided.

i know several people, myself included at times, who regularly include Immodium as another daily medication because of similar issues/side effects.

when are you taking your meds? 400 calories isn't all that much. Surely you ingest more calories than that at dinner time. If not, add a dessert every night. LOL Also have you taken notice on whether the problem is worse or better with certain foods? Maybe you can just avoid certain things and resolve this issue.

do make sure to tell the Doc. in this day and age, with multiple ways to combat side effects, and multiple HIV regimens, there should be some way to help you.

Good luck!!

Not really a rebel. It isn't as if this is a daily thing. Mostly once a twice a month. And never grapefruit juice, only the fruit.

I drink the forbidden juice once every now and then.  The actual fruit is better though.

I kind of find the juice overwhelming, but then I barely drink juice of any kind. Except apricot nectar or passionfruit :)

As an aside, there are few things as delightful as a passion fruit daiquiri in a tropic setting, no? Very Bouvier from what I hear.

Anything with passion fruit, papaya, or mango gets an A+ on my list.

I find Papaya totally vile. It infects the taste of all other fruits.

Cantaloupe is the worst. I'm so not huge on any type of melon though. I can handle green melon but that is only because it's often served with prosciutto.

What kind of papaya have you queens been eating?  Well, in Space's case I think it is different variety.  If you buy it at the right time, when it is ripe and sweet (but not  too soft), it is delish.

Oh, and Philicia, did ya know that papaya is Cuban slang for poosay?

Ps./ J'adore guava and guava juice (and guava paste, especially with dulce de leche).

Damm you queers are way too exotic for me  ;D

Chile, please.  If you want "exotic" you need to try dragon fruit , carambola, rambutan, mamoncillo, chirimoya, or purple mangosteen (lak totes oemgee!).

pps./ hey Space how do you like durian?  I find it totally vomititious.

I agree.  Other than those, I love just about any fruit you can mention - and I would drink juice to the exclusion of any and everything else.  I just adore juices.

I'm currently stocked with oranges, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, apples and a bit of watermelon.

There are excellent deals where I live right now on grapes and red plums . I have to watch it with the grapes though because they run my blood sugar up so high , then again if I wouldn't gorge on a pound at a time they may not LOL .

grapes, and raisins, are known to cause renal failure in dogs.

the exact cause is yet unknown but larger amounts and certain breeds seem to make dogs more highly susceptible to this deadly problem. Xylitol (found in gum and other candies) along onions, garlic, chocolate and macadamia nuts are also highly poisonous to dogs.
