Medication, and family support.
« on: November 29, 2008, 10:19:51 am »
Friends, As you can see from my avatar I am doing much better than I have before. The new combination of meds have really helped. I feel much more stable and have been able to move on with my life. In other words I am feeling much more like myself. I have been able to take things one day at a time. I am reading again two or three books a week, thank goodness I can concentrate again. My Father and Mother are paying for graduate courses for me to re tool my life. I am enjoying my classes and doing very well. Even an eight or ten page paper does not feel overwhelming. My grandson has been quite the motivator, my daughter is pregnant and I will be a grandfather again. I still am living day by day with my job, getting my pension, but it is not overwhelming me. I have been going to my spiritual place every sunday, my therapist is supporting me. Plus I always have this place to go to. I thank everyone for their support. To those who are struggling, keep going there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Do not take it all on yourself at once move ahead a day at a time. I am looking at smaller goals and I move ahead small steps at a time.

Hey Peter!

I don't know how I missed this thread when you first posted, but I'm glad I found it. I'm really pleased for you that you're feeling better - and yes, you do indeed look very happy in your photo.

I can totally relate to your joy over being able to concentrate and read books again. Back in 2002/03 when I was on the treatment for hep C, I couldn't concentrate at all and the one thing I REALLY missed was reading books. I'm also back to reading several each week and it's great.

((((((Peter))))))

Thanks for the uplifting update!

Ann

Thank you everyone,
I thought it would be good to keep everyone updated. It is good to be able to do things again. Life is still on the edge, money is tight, but I have a much better attitude. I am going to school and working on a second masters degree. This time in mental health counseling. One of the other members here has been an inspiration to me. He is bipolar and hiv positive and a therapist as well. I have told him about my aspirations and he said the his clients have a positive approach to him because he can relate to their problems.
I am getting a nice "A" in my class I am taking right now. I even got a 100% on one of my papers. I am doing quite well and cannot wait to sign up for my winter classes.
I am much happier, lets all have a great holiday now.

Peter, I loved that post.  Your grandson, btw, is adorable.  If I can, I'll post a pic of my grandkids (if I have one of the two of them together).  I think you would make a wonderful mental health counselor.  I think sometimes about going on to get a master's when I'm done with this bachelor's.  One class at a time sounds good.

I'm so glad you're doing well.  Happy holidays.

Edited to ad:  the first one is my sister, myself (I'm the blonde) and my granddaughter.  Unfortunately, you can barely see my granddaughter.  The 2nd one is my grandson.  These were taken last year.

Thank you so much for the good wishes, your support during my dark days was greatly appreciated. I recieved letters today from my retirement fund, I have been approved for a diability retirement, as well I recieved SSDI approval. I am a bit anxious about all of this. It is what I was hoping for I will be able to keep my benifits and I will recieve as much if not more financially as I am working as a sub. I will be able to go to school full time and put all my attention into it. I will collect the SSDI until I can work again in my new chosen career. I have just never worked with these agencies before and am not fully knowledable as far as what to expect. Not working scares me a bit too. I have to have someone go with me to social security to manage my finances, I know I can do that myself but I am recieving ssdi because of my bipolar diorder. I have to offically resign from the Detroit School District, which should be a relief. They are riddled with problems and may not be in existence next year.
So......this is good news, it is just that I have to deal with the anxiety of all the new things taking place.
