Like allot of people who live with HIV I have defied the odds and lived 25 years with a disease that has taken many things and people I love away from me . I have listend to Lots of people on this forum that deal with the same issue's I do as a person on disability with limited incomes that limit our ability to have any expectancy of a normal social life . For the last 8 years I have been dealing with my share of isolation and loneliness and had all but given up hope of finding just one friend that is HIV positive and could relate to my realities in life . Because of where I live I knew the odds were not in my favor .
Last year I put an ad in POZ personals . I got allot of responses but after emailing and a phone call or two I realized most are single for good reasons , some lived to far away and the rest were druggies or boozers .
Some just wanted sex and some just seemed to desperate for an instant relationship for my taste.
Its been awhile since I even read my own profile in the personals . I do know that I clearly stated that I was looking for friends , but would be open to a dating situation if the friendship turned that way.
About two weeks ago I got an email from I guy that I talked to last year. We talked on and off for awhile But nothing became of it . After a few emails we exchanged phone numbers and have talked every day since . Turns out that we both have allot in common , we come from similar back grounds , we are both artist . He paints and I do sculpture and stain glass . I love the fact that we talked for a dozen hours before talking about sex or physical appearances. This guy seems for real and wants a friend as much as I do.
I have been hoping to meet someone that's disabled and poor just like me , someone that can come hang out at my house and share a meal or just watch a movie with. He lives 3 hours from me and we are going to have lunch this Thursday . I know from talking to him there is a basis for a really comfortable friendship. We both have discussed the fact that there are no expectations or agenda. The part that I'm a little nervous and excited about is the mans a hunk , a six foot tall wall of muscle hunk ... you know the type they useally run in packs and kick sand in the faces of guys like me . Don't get me wrong I work out and take care of myself but my experiences are that big muscles like big muscles. I sent him a pic the other day and he finally wrote me back and to my suprise he shyly told me that he was getting a little nervous too . After trading pics it seems we both are really attracted to each other . I don't know how this is going to turn out . I think maybe at least that I may have found that friend to hang out with , who knows maybe against all odds this mini adventure could turn out to be something I didn't expect.

I hope your date turns out to be a good one..but quite frankly looking at your avatar I'm surprise they are not queuing up at your front door...just enjoy the day.

Hey Jeff,
I just went on a date yesterday. This was the second date and the only time in 8 years there have been two dates. We have dates 3 and 4 in planning, I can blame it on the flu. We first e-met on a dating site and right before our first date, he got the flu and I had two weeks to be charming online and fortunately for me, it works.
I only got one other response on that site and he was a bisexual married guy looking for a "good butt pounding" (his words, not mine) and in this day and digital age, he neglected to have a photograph. Just between you, me and the other 7110 members of these forums, I feel like a Prom Queen and I hope the same for you ;D Have the best day

I get 3 or 4 responses a month on average . Like Michael pointed out , the ones that are the most aggressive are the least charming . One of the last ones emailed " when are we gonna get together and do it" one guy sends about a dozen flirt messages every month and never bothers to write .

Hope you have a wonderful time on your date. Sounds like you two have the basis for
something here. And it sounds like you have a good approach: no agenda, few expectations
other than spending some time together having lunch. And just because you consider
you don't consider yourself a "muscle hunk" doesn't mean you aren't attractive -- so don't
sell yourself short (guys seem to pick up on that quickly).
Of course, since you posted this all here, we'll want details on how your date went. ;D

He seemed like a very nice guy . After careful consideration I have decided to remain friends .
I'm thinking maybe its best to start a thread like this after the first date .
