Only 94 ! . If I die at 94 with bacon breath I will consider it a life well lived .

Yeah really. What an odd comment, Wolferella. I see the white zin is uncorked early today. Happy New Year!

Oh, and as regards bacon grease and making gravy -- I DO NOT MAKE GRAVY FOR MY FUCKING FOOD. Though I do eat it when I'm home at my parents though I don't think we had it a single time on anything this past visit.

No, but I cant remember the last time I cooked bacon at home.  Must be a southern thing.

I cook bacon sometimes just not a lot, and try and buy local pastured pig meat from the farmer's market. And a lot of time it's that leaner "back bacon" like what is used for Canadian bacon, and what is sold in the UK. Seriously way better and after cooking it there's not much grease at all in the skillet.

As far as bacon grease on bread, I suppose that's no worse than the elitist bone marrow on crostini, and you girls just know if that's on the menu I'm all over it. One of my favorite things in the world. Actually bone marrow is more like butter, not bacon grease so nevermind. IT'S "MEAT BUTTER"! Supposedly in an evolutionary way it's what helped humans develop larger brains.

What???  have you misplaced your sense of humor this morning?

And so you'll know, if I DO drink this early in the day; it's green bean coffee with Baileys.  That way I'm a wide awake buzzer.  Unlike the first time I did Yager bombs.  I had never heard of Red Bull and we drank those shots all night long.  Suddenly, I was surrounded by a bunch of wide awake drunks at 3:00 am.

I couldn't resist saving the bacon grease, because I knew it would make some delicious cream gravy that I slathered over homemade biscuits on New Year's morning.

YES YES YES! a Thousand times YES!

PS- I got a jar of ChowChow for Christmas, also a jar of Corn Relish (which I just finished today)  :P

Gravy is bad for you. Stop over-cooking your meat and you won't need it. We all know that Southerners order their steaks well done like shoe leather.

As far as Chow Chow -- this is one, and you should feel bad that you eat such things:

You're a liar. I know you put it on that over-cooked dried-out bargain basement cut of beef you throw in a crock pot for 12 hours and call roast beef.

Next thing you're going to tell us is that you're actually 44 years old.

Stuff my coin clutch and give this savings plan a try so I can have more pinch money.  It is a few steps back from the edge of my personal fiscal cliff.

I have already put away loose change to the week 10 amount.

If done right chow-chow makes a tasty relish. Done right black eyed peas are delish. I make a black eyed pea humus that's a big hit.

Care to share your humus recipe? I never got my black-eyed peas prepared for NYD.

the first half of that plan isn't too bad; but it gets real scary during the second half. There's no way to do that on a fixed income.  ;)

Good luck and I hope you stick to this plan - then take a trip with all that money  ;)

Of course, I had the get in better shape resolution.  Still working on that.  I keep planning to use the elliptical and weights, at least 3 times a week.

I have done really well with getting organized.  We have a room in our basement that was/is filled with junk, but also important papers and mementos.  I've gone through all of it.  I've thrown out most of the junk.  And, I've finally made use of the filing cabinet we bought.  Tax papers all together.  Mortgage stuff all together.  Legal papers all together.  Bday, valentines day cards in a file.  We've begun scanning in all those old photos.  I found the blueprints for our house.

I even found some old nude pix of myself.  Full frontal and up close butt shots.  I would never allow an up close butt shot today.  I had hidden them in a stack of news scripts I saved.  They were some of the first news scripts I wrote.  That kinda made me depressed.  Man, I really should have gone into porn.   ::)  What is funny, but often the case, I felt very insecure back then.  I would love to look like that again, and have all that hair.

Another interesting thing is reading all the letters from friends and family, from the last 20 years.  Everyone is talking about having email at school, but not at home.  And, others saying they don't have email yet.  I haven't gotten or received a snail-mail letter in over ten years.  Oh, I found a pile of those AOL discs they sent on a weekly basis.  Also found several of those discs, but I don't have a way now to see what's on them.  I forget what they're called.  Not floppy discs.

Not floppy discs.
although they were not the original 5 1/2 inch floppy discs we used with the apple II e or an IBM, they were called floppy discs - 3.5 inch floppy disk.
