Vitamin B12 Levels
« on: November 15, 2007, 10:08:30 am »
I just had a visit with my doc and I'm still having trouble with my b12 levels :'(
I'm having to take b12 shots every 2 weeks. My starting b12 level was below 200 which is kind of scary and which made me a little wacky. My doc tells me I'm just not absorbing b12 from food or supplements that I take in, so I have to get the injections every 2 weeks, as I've been doing for over a year now. My doc stated it could be partly from the meds. Just wondering if anyone else have this problem.

Thanks Wish,
I "googled" b12 and Hiv on the net and read how possibly up to 30% of HIV+ persons have low b12 possibly due to the hiv. I also read some other studies but they were old studies. Let me know what u find out.  :)

How much B12 were you taking orally through supplements ?
And in what form ?
The page at http://www.yourhealthbase.com/vitamin_B12.html says 200 is actually on the low end of the normal range, not a deficiency. What's your level now ?
It also states the best B12 supplementation is by dissolving a sublingual tablet. This is actually the type of B12 supplement I am on (from Now foods). But I haven't had my B12 levels checked yet.

I got my B12 level taken last month. It came in at 935 pg/mL . This is on the high side, probably because my test was taken within a few hours after I swallowed one half of my multi http://www.nowfoods.com/?action=itemdetail&item_id=13687 which has 125 mcg of B12, and after I chewed a 1000 mcg B12 lozenge - http://www.nowfoods.com/?action=itemdetail&item_id=3437 . My doctor said it was a good result.
You migh want to try this. The now B12 is < $10 fom Iherb.com for 250 lozenges.
