We don't play odds here. You now have to test after your last unprotected sex. You can test at 6 weeks and if it is negative get a conclusive test at 3 months. Oh and take the cap lock off.

If your 3 month test is negative it means you are conclusively negative. Use condoms.

Yes. Take the time and read the testing lessons. You can find the link in the "Welcome" thread.

Butt,

You've continued to have unprotected intercourse AFTER you found out about your partner's hiv status? Not to put too fine a point on it - but - are you nuts? Are you a bug-chaser? What's up with you???

Hiv is transmitted through unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse and if you're the receptive partner (the one being penetrated by a penis), then you've put yourself at great risk.

The first thing you need to do is to start using condoms with this man, unless you WANT to become hiv positive. It doesn't matter if you are the receptive or insertive partner, you're putting yourself at risk by not using condoms.

The second thing you need to do is TEST. As the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, the earliest you should test is six weeks after your last (hopefully last EVER) incident of unprotected intercourse. A six week negative MUST be confirmed at three months, but is unlikely to change.

Wise up and start using condoms. You need to be using condoms with ANYONE, not just this person who you know to be hiv positive.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Ann

Guys I failed to mention that during my unprotected sexual encounters I had some vaginal bleeding which sometimes accrue when I have relations. My doctor said its normal to bleed a little when you have sex. But I don't believe her. I have been just thinking about my chances of contracting HIV from my partner. I can recall bleeding during sex on 3 occasions. I have not had any relations with him since my last unprotected sex with him on DEC17. Now I am scared crazy because I have been reading up on HIV transmission and that's when I remembered bleeding a couple of times after intercourse. So my question is how risky is that?

Stop with all the drama, no kidding. We appreciate that you're concerned but indulging in the drama definitely doesn't help the situation. You need to get tested at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected incident. We don't play guessing games here about % of risk.

Get tested and get your result. You can get a prelimenary result at 6 weeks. Assuming that one is negative it's likely you will continue to test negative.

Most important is you need to learn from this experience and make sure that everytime you have intercourse in the future your partner(s) wear latex condoms. No exceptions.

Good luck with your tests.

There is no reason to shout. You were told when to test. That's final.

You came here looking for advise and you were given it..read Ann's post again (#6), if you want to continue with our support during your testing (waiting) period then I suggest you drop the attitude now and leave the cap lock alone...it is considered shouting and we don't like being yelled at.

Blood or no blood you had unprotected sex so therefore you need to test.

Butt,

How surprised can you be? You continued having unprotected intercourse with someone you knew to be hiv positive. That's how hiv is transmitted.
