new antidepressant
« on: August 21, 2014, 04:44:50 pm »

   ojo   Hi everyone

After dealing with HIV (dxed) for almost 20 years, I've having problems with anxiety due to depression, I've been taking celexa for almost a year and I still get anxiety attacks...talk to my ID, told me maybe is time to see a shrink, or change antidepressant, so recommended me to talk to my family doctor, do I did talk to my family doctor, he told me, "no need for a shrink, there is a new test that can tell us what kind of antidepressant can work for you", si I got the test (swab in your mouth), I will wait for ten days and see what happens, if the new med doesn't help, then I will see a shrink...we have our hiv problems, plus our daily life problems, family problems, money problems, etc, etc....si I think sometimes we need to look for help...I've been trying to give newly infected members, support and sharing experinces,, and cheering them up, and I think it is time for me to be cheer up, because sometime, I feel like thowinh the towel, specially after my friend tonny's dead...so plese wish me luck...gracias     oko

This test analyzes genes that may affect a patient’s response to antidepressant and antipsychotic medications. The test includes pharmacokinetic genes from the Cytochrome P450 family and pharmacodynamic genes related specifically to the serotonin system are genotyped.

Far out man!  :o

I hope you get some relief soon Tonny.

ojo   Thanks Jeff, initforit and mech, I'm not planning in killing my self I don't even own a gun, just the pistol of hot air, I use to dry my hair , I don't think it would do anygood, or bad lol...some times it's hard, and my anxiety pills (Xanax) don't work, so I ended up in the ER because I got chest pain, and I have geart disease, so it worrys me, I'm not sure if  it is anxiety of my little pump...so I hope with this test, I can get something that stops those anxiety attacks...one more thing that is driving me crazy, no being able to drive anymore, because of my eye problems, it's been 14 years since a went to renew my drivers license, what I got was a handicap card, I'm serious, ufff
Mecch, thanks for the information about that test, I have not idea of such a thing

hugs for everyone, guess what, today is my birthday, I'm getting older!!!

Tonny, it is Jeff who posted the link to the company that invented the test.
Did you visit the site? You should!
It sounds both promising, but also a bit suspect.
If the info it gives the GP is actually valid, it seems like a good way to add more info to a doctor's wisdom about a particular patient.
On the other hand, I think it would be especially effective if such info was going to a psychiatrist.  Or a therapist of some kind.  I think its best that a mental health professional is putting their wisdom on mental health challenges.  When and where it is possible to get mental health professionals on the case.

The first thing I did was Google search antidepressant oral swab test because I had never heard of such a thing and was thinking no way is the real ... but we all know if its on the internet it must be real  ::) .
I think there is good reason to believe in the science behind this, its not uncommon to use genetic testing for other medications and this seems to be the way medicine is going .

Fox news did a report on it LOL ... as I dodge stones .  :o

:D Hi guya...finally I got a call from my GP's nurse, the results of that "test" are back, I will go on Tuesday to see the doctor and find out if this is for real...as long as I get something to help me feel better, I'm ok with it, he recommended couseling too...I have gotten worse since my friend's death, plus my vision problems, plus my mother getting older and me not being able to care 100% for help, plus no having anyone to drive me around, etc, etc,...now that I know that the possibility of a surgery to better my eye sight is nule, I guess I will have to see the counselor asapin combination wuth the new antidepressant, I hope and I can take this new med for a little while, cause I don't want to take more meds, I already got rid of the celexa...ok my friends and members, I will keep you posted, next Tuesday is my app.   hugs     ojo

ojo   I will Jeff G, my app. is at 1.30, as soon as I know the results and ask the doctor what kind of test this was, I will let you guys know...like I said before, I stopped the celexa because it wasn't helping me (I know how to do it) so I'll see what med he givs me, although I'm planning in seeing a counselor too, so I get to the root of all this, and get back to be myself...I'm traying not to get to involved with people with hiv, because it hurts too much when something happened to them, if you know what I mean...my depression got worse since my friend TONNY passing and my eye sight getting worse....but I'll be ok, I've been "ok" for almost 20 years, a couple of decades more, it won't hurt lol...what are you taking buddy Jeff or were taking?     hugs

Im on Trazodone, I had tried all the other ones and my doc gave me trazodone to help me sleep and a week later I began to get better with my depression and have some good days . I had given up that there could be a medical solution to my depression when just by dumb luck I found the one that works .

I didn't even realize I suffered from mild depression until I started taking the Trazodone for sleep issues.  I simply thought I was in a constant state of sadness due to all the BS life has thrown at me. ;)

Tonny, if it's not too personal, what is causing your vision issues?  I lost my vision several years ago and regained quite a bit of it after finally working a good eye doctor.

Hi Carl, I've been posting about my eye's problems for a while...my right eye is blind due to a bad retina detachment surfery, wich I took it as a surgery's risk (for peace of mind). I also had retinal detachtment problems in my left eye, due to CMV RETINITIS (having cd4=zero for five years, treatment failure),...I lost my peripherial vision on my left eye, I have what doctors called "tunnel vision", but my cornea was damaged, doctors said, to many surgeries, I said, my retinal specialist ruined it,, I see everything blurry, foggy, and to see better, I had a stem cell transplantation surgery (twice, 2009, and 2014) from the cells of my corneas blind eye (right eye), this kind of surgeries, transplantation of cells, usually last for 30 years or so, but for some reason, they did not work for me that long (I'm a guy with lots of luck, bad luck, but, luck), so now I was exploring to get cadaver's cells, but my ID, cornea specialists, said that it is a NO, NO for me, because I will be taking immunosuppressant for the rest of my 'miserable" life hehe...so, my eye sight will get worse with time, we don't know for how long, but it will get worse,...if you want to know more about this, feel free to rad my post...now, I have another problem (no wonder why I need an antidepressant), my blind eye is giving me awful eye and headaches, SOLUTION, getting my eye out, ouch!!!, and I'm thinking seriously in having it done, because I was keeping it just in case I needed it, wich I did (my cornea's cell), now my right eye is useless, but I'm concerned about what some call "phantom organ", that, I will still have pain even with my eye amputated...well, I will let you guys know, what the doctor prescribe...thanks for reading me and your kind words, thanks Jeff G, for the info, I stopped the CELEXA, so we'll see what's next, I will right this med's name down, to ask my doc      ojo

I found it very nice ojo  :)

My husband has had his retina fall off ,  he waited too long and the surgery did not go as planned . Another invasive surgery with lazer beams was able to correct most of the damage .
Bob has never had good eye sight , But the doctors did a great job restoring the eye .
I  pray that you will  be able to retain eye sight .
I truly understand  the need for antidepressants  .

ojo   Hi everyone, the results are back, in according to this test, what I'm taking, celexa, it is not metabolized well by my body, which means, it doesn't work for me, I know that...so, the recommendations are, Pristiq,Norpramin, Cymbalta, Luvox, Pamelor, Brintellix...so I decided to try Pamelor, which, I used a while ago for neurophatic pain, and it helped me then, will see if it does comething for my depression (anxiety attacks)...I will let you know how I feel after a couple of weeks or a month of taking this new med...among the list that my body doesn't metabolize this kind of meds are: Wellbutrin, Celexa, Lexapro,EmSAM AND Zoloft, which I tried before too and did not helped me either...there are some others that may help among them, Prozac, Paxil, Desyrel, etc, etc....so, I know some people are  about this test, but, like I said before, I don't lose anything and I will try it..thanks for reading me....   ojo

ojo    Hi guys....I was reading the results of this "test", and it seems like the genotypes and phenotypes test...it tells you what  analgesic,ADHD, Psychotropic meds, might work better for you....one of the title says "GENOTYPES AND PHENOTYPES, EXTENSIVE METABOLIZER"...I will see if I can sacn one of the results page, for you guys to see (I'm not that savy for computers tech, plus blind plus lttle to non pacience heheh)...but I started taking my new antidepressant, which I used a long time ago to help me with my neurophatic pain, I remember it helped me for a while (for pain)...according to this results too, Vicodin it is not helpful for me, maybe that's why I'm still in pain (I take 2 norcor 5mg for pain),it recommends to use Vivitrol or Nucynta, kmmm I will take this results to my next pain doctors appointment...we'll see what happens...thanks guys for reading and replying...ojo

   -jo   Hi everyone

I started taking nortriptyline 5 days ago, last night I stopped taking it because of the side effects, it made me feel worse but what really concerned me was, it was starting to mess with my eyesight, as some of you may know,I'm legally blind and just to think it may damage the little vision I have left, scared me...so I will talk to my doc tomorrow, (eye and GP) doctors to "see", what I can do...this made me think, that it might be time  to just forget about an antidepressant, and look for a boyfriend instead, lol, seriously it might be time to tackle my demons in a different way, we'll see what the docs have to say...hugs    ojo
