now we can hope that a cure soon will be available for people like us who are just moving in dark towards an end..according to a research hiv vaccine has been designed and tested successfully on monkeys in Maryland(MD)..lookin into the research it has provided us a hope for hiv cure in near future..plz visit this link

I am sure all of us has put certain dreams at back after we diagnosed poz, as i did...
So what would be the first thing that you will do if you cured of hiv..Lets share those feelings those griefs which we might not had shared with anyone...so whats urs?

i would leave work early,skip the gym (i didnt even skip gym on dx day) and go out and get hammered in the day time celebrating!

Good lord, speak for yourself. It's attitudes like yours that perpetuate the stigma we have to deal with.

Why put any dreams "at the back"? You've got a virus, not a dream-killer.

Leftalone - welcome to the forums.
You know a lot of people here do not experience an AIDS diagnosis as a contract with death.
I notice that you are living in India. Why don't you discuss a bit about your own situation and the situations of people in your community, living with aids. Is an HIV diagnosis a death sentence in India, for you? For certain people only? For everyone? Hard to believe for everyone, since there is HAART and good doctors in India.

@ meech.. had you never scared of the virus , u would have not joined here his forum.... had u never felt alone and gonna die soon in comparison to others.. u would never joined this forum.. so think what made you join here??? we all know we will die one day but dude when you know you not gonna lead a normal life and may die before normal life..then it makes a difference...ain't you feel u gonna die soon?? i dunn come from a rural area.. i know what haart is and all tha mechanism and primers that dna and innate follows.. n probably knows more than you coz i am in research field... so i knw what i am talking about..you find out your reason to be here... posting 10 useless statement in a day dsnt show yours grey matter.....

i joined here because I didn't die from AIDS and OI complications several times and had outlived everyone else that I knew with HIV. I felt like I might be the last guy in America from the early 90s left alive. LOL So 15 yrs of AIDS later, I quit lurking and started posting. Not because I was scared or wanted more infomation; but because I wanted someone in a similar situation to talk too. And lo and behold, there aren't many of us; but there's a enough "long-term survivors" around here to chat with.
When I was really sick and the hospital back in 96 and 98 and almost in 2001, I was afraid I was going to die early. However, while all my friends without medications died before they even made it to 35, there are meds out now, and the meds are so greatly improved that I'm about to be 50 and figure now I'll be around to my 60s or 70s - or maybe even my 90s! :D
An AIDS diagnosis used to be a killer; but not so much any more. People diagnosed in 2011, that end up on treatment, are probably going to go on to live a normal life for close to a normal life span - keeping their dreams on the front burner. I know I thought I had no more dreams when I was so sick in the hospital; but since I lived through that, I have gone on to fall in love again and to have new dreams of what I want for my future.
Too be honest, if you're just a few weeks into learning that you are positive, it's no wonder you are depressed and think this diagnosis is the end of your dreams and such; but you couldn't be more wrong. ;) ;D With proper treatment at the proper time, HIV is NOT a death sentence, nor the end of your life, nor the end of your dreams.

Well Leatherman said lot of things I wanted to say, much more politely than I was going to say it.
In answer to the questions you raise, yes I went through all the emotions you describe, when I
got my diagnosis I thought I was a dead man walking. You say you are in the research field, then you
should know what people like Leatherman and other LTS (20 or 30 years ago) had to go thorough,20
or more pills a day, doesn't bear thinking about.
Compared to them my journey with hiv has been a walk in the park,.. so far !
I use this forum because this is the only place I can communicate with other +ve people, I do not
know any other +ve people in my day to day life, when I use this forum I feel like I'm amongst my
kind , this is very important for my mental well being
And I can't understand why you having a go at Mecch when he gave you a perfectly civil answer, but
I'm sure he can speak for himself.
If you have issues dealing with hiv, may be you should raise them in Living with section, not in the
research and news section.
PS, when you publish your research papers , I hope you use a better standard of English than your
last post unless it's going to be aimed at hoodies and homies

Why dont you speak about your own experience and explain your own feelings instead of assuming things about mine.
Sure I was scared of HIV since th 1980s. Sure I was scared when I was infected and diagnosed a few years ago. Just an opportunity for a change of mind set and education.
In Switzerland, the first thing the HIV specialist told me was to expect a normal lifespan.
I dont have a doom and gloom mentality about HIV. Also i like this community because its a community, with people who happen to be HIV+ but who have all sorts of other things to express and share. So maybe in your opinion and sometimes my own there are "useless" posts, but really not too often.
Unless you can explain why you have such a gloomy outlook about living with HIV, perhaps by sharing your personal experience or what its like in your region, your country, then you are just stirring up trouble and judging others here.
So share.

And to answer your original question.
The first thing I would do if I were cured of HIV is invite my friends and pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
I guess I might then try to help everyone around the world have access to a cure, just like now its so important for people to have access to doctors and medicine. And right now everybody does not, by a long shot.

I walked around like a zombie. Anyway I was in sero-conversion so I was quite sick.
Unlike some people, I don't remember the date, and each year about that time I don't have to have some anniversary that would feel sad and sinister to me, personally.

Nervous, forced, contrived, trying desperately hard to be normal (to everyone else and even to myself) sort.
It can sometimes be far more agonising putting up a front than surrendering completely to the moment.

You were lucky, here in .HR most people are ignorant about it.
1. I was given a positive test result by a epidemiologist, and she cried as she told me:
''Unfortunately, your test result came positive. But you can take medications and live for twenty years''.
:( (I know she could not have told me ''you can live for sixty years'' because, HAART
has been around for less than 20 years anyway ;D ).
2. But my HIV doctors (a professor and a docent at the local University) told me: you can expect a normal lifespan, you can do whatever you can...as if you were an HIV negative person (skydiving, scooba etc).
I even asked them directly about my prognosis, and they said: the prognosis is good. ;)
