I find most(not all) people outside of the Deep South to be fairly rude regardless of their opinion of who I have sex with.

Horse crap.  I had to move out of the "deep South" because of people's ignorance.  My daughter is 1/2 Mexican, and when people in Alabama met her, some would ask "well, what is she?"  Talk about rude.

Hey betty, I got a lotta of that too in Atlanta, most all of my cousins were so much darker than me & my twin sister, some thought we were white, if I recall way back then, but we were only visitors from Nor-Cal w/ realities, so it wasn't all that bad  ;)

We're all colored by our experiences.  I find most northerners to be cold and impolite on a pretty regular basis.  After spending a couple of years in Pennsylvania I was glad to be back in the South.  I also used to deal with Rhode Islanders consistently due to a job I had and it was dreadful in every way imaginable.

Northerners aren't rude (my hubby is from northern NY State up near the Canadian Border) they just don't have time for bull-shit, my hubby's like this, but I assure you he's not rude, he's the nicest man you could ever meet

Dennis who loves northern man especially NY men, they are the sexiest men I've ever met in my life, their no-nonsense attitude makes them HOT

Unfortunately the discourteous and uncouth don't confine themselves to one geographic region.

Come on now -- -I am a Rhode Islander, born and raised.  I may have my moments, but I wouldn't label me dreadful.   ;D

So where exactly did you live in the North -- you're mighty young at 30 to have such a breadth of regional experiences.

But yes, the North is not utopia, but there are more such places than in the south -- except Cary, NC gets a pass.

My dad worked for one of the nuclear power plants up there, Limerick.  So initially we were in Pottstown/Allentown then we moved somewhere in West Chester and then finally Downingtown before we moved back home.  There was very little racial diversity in any of those places, literally everyone was white.

Really -- Rhode Islanders aren't all that bad.  We may talk funny (I've lost most of my accent -- except under stress), but not a bad lot all in all.  What company did you deal with up there?

We have some good food too -- Italian in Federal Hill and Seafood, anywhere.  You can't get a good stuffed Quahoug anywhere else.  Also, best Fish and Chips anywhere -- my hometown's own Ye Ol' English Fish & Chips -- when I was kid, the line would go for blocks on Fridays during Lent.

So what's you point? What's Jefferson County in Mississippi like? 86.49% Black?

My neighborhood is diverse -- whies, blacks, hispanics, asians as was my hood in Brooklyn.

Nobody has ever said that all communities in the North are 30-30-20-30 in racial diversity, at least outside of major cities.

But you'e looking on the surface, the issue is institutional racism - explicit vs. implicit. But hey, go ahead and defend the South like you always do -- by all mean enjoy the lower median income due to disparity in educational opportunity which, yes, is related to racism.

Anyway, you're busy discussing catfish and hush puppies. ::)

That's because there are only 3.5% African Americans there out of a population of 1,852,994 :) The US rate is 13.6%

Nonsense -- go to Mississipi!

Actually the % of African Americans in Philadelphia (44.2%) is higher than in Mississimpi (36.66%), Alabama (26.33%) or South Carolina (27.9%)

Detroit is higher though at 82.7% -- in "raw numbers" as opposed to % I believe NYC is the highest.

* note some of those citeis in the last link are not particularly large

Shall we discuss "white flight"?

I've been to Mississippi.  We went through there to either FL or LA.

I've been to Mississippi.  We went through there to either FL or LA.

I'd actually like to visit Natchez to see all of the old mansions. I'd also love to visit Charleston and Savannah (went to these places when I was a little kid so I don't recall it much) -- you see, I don't "hate" the South by any means, just the political climate found there, Lost Cause and all of that. Maybe I should go visit James as I think he lives near those places... nothing like inviting myself :)

And by the way -- how many have you have gone to Richmond, Williamsburg and Yorktown, must less the James River Plantations? And how about Monticello. I'd say if you are planning on driving from the west to AMG you really should stop for a day trip or overnight at Monticello -- it's really and amazing place, and you can visit Luray Caverns close by. This is all just and easy 2.5 hour drive from DC, and the Shenandoah Valley area is gorgeous.

I was fortunate to visit a lot of Virginia when I lived there.  Having lived in both the north and the south, I've met some of the greatest people in both.  Also met some complete assholes.  Neither area claims ownership to either.

As promised, Alexandra Pelosi returns to Real Time to debut her very short piece of some New Yorkers.  She interviews some people outside the welfare office.  FOX will have a field day with this one, with a few saying they were getting "Obama Bucks."  Surprisingly, the office is across the street from her apartment.  I found that interesting.  She and Bill discuss the "outrage" over her video from Mississippi.

She's being provocative more than saying anything thoughtful or producing thoughtful documentaries.  Her discourse is scattershot and not very clever.  Obviously the apple fell a bit far from the tree because Nancy mostly comes off as brilliant, and she is most definitely a very serious and accomplished person, someone for the history books.

They brought up and dismissed the idea that this is smug monied liberal condescension but I think that pretty much nails it.

HBO must have a rather expensive contract with her and perhaps foisted her on Maher cause since she's being paid she might as well do something??
