Ear Piercing
« on: July 14, 2008, 01:37:20 pm »
A trip to Claires in UK has left me thinking, why did I bother testing for HIV if things are going to be like this, and also I thought I could have just signed the form and not let them know.

I went to Claires to have my ears pierced, I was given a form to fill in, there was a question asking if i suffer from HIV or other blood condition, I said yes not knowing where it was gona lead.  Literally I thought it was for their hygiene purpose but the lady said she cant continue because I was HIV pos.  I tried to explain to her that I know definitely what i was getting myself into but instead she said I need to get a letter from a Dr that i am fit to have my ears pierced, and its their company policy

I was so gutted and just left, surely i didn't see any harm in having my ears pierced, maybe there was, I just realised these are some of the things i have to live with for being pos maybe she was just doing her job properly,

I am just venting it out ladies because I don't know what to think about it at the moment, and i haven't got anyone to share my opinion about it.
All I needed was to have my ears pierced professionally.

That seems very strange.  I just got my left eyebrow pierced a few months ago and the place I went to never blinked twice.  I've also had tattoos done since testing poz.

I would check out another place.  This doesn't seem like customary practice, unless it is in the UK. (I live in the States).

Mini got her ears pierced when she was an infant and still carried a load.  I spoke with her PID first who said that as long as it was done with the 1-use gun, the person wore gloves, and cleaned Mini's ears with alcohol, then there shouldn't be any problem.  At that time, my cousin was the manager and she just brought all the stuff to our home and did it here.  I signed all the consents and don't remember anything about being HIV+.  The only restriction was that if the baby was less than 6wks old, we had to show proof that she'd had her 1st round of shots.  She was nearly a year old, so it wasn't applicable.

I agree with Betty.  I'm not sure why that would even be the consent form.

I wouldn't have even done it if I had to fill out that I was HIV+. I don't know how it is in the UK but here in the US the girls that work at Claires are a bunch of teeny boppers. Huh...I'm surprised they said no. There are probably plenty of people who come in with all kinds of things and either don't know or don't disclose. Maybe a piercing shop would do it?

Uh yeah. Where I live when you go to the mall to get your ears pierced at Clarie's or whatever accessory shop they have.
Those people aren't professionals. They are typically kids who's manager showed them how to put ink dots on someones ears ask the customer if it looks straight to them and fire a earring through the dot. Hopefully aiming properly.

Next time just lie. But don't let them touch you unless they are wearing gloves and clean your ear with alcohol.

Ive never heard of having to disclose for ear piercing. I've filled out forms to get tattoos that asked if I was poz but never for my ears. I would def go someplace else, it sounds to me that the lady just didnt want to do it

I have gotten my noes pierced and a tattoo with no problem..all the universal precautions when followed correctly protect them..Claires and every piercing shop here follow them so that no one feels excluded and all is protected.

what happen to you is horrible...Go to another store and get your ears pierced.

That person was tripping hard!!! >:(I've had 6 tats, nipple, clit, tongue, chin, and eyebrow piercings done since being poz without any type of negative feedback from the person doing the procedures.  Definitely, go somewhere else!

Beh.  Doesn't hurt at all.  Even getting my eyebrow pierced didn't hurt.  Nor my nose. Now, the labre, that's another thing.

Anyway, good luck.  And like Wendy(winiroo) said, keep them clean and turned the following days.

Finally I managed to get them done in a different town.  It didnt hurt that much and there wasnt any risk involved at all. They wear gloves so i dont know what the fuss was all about in my town.  No disclosure no hassle
