Please allow me to introduce myself...
« on: August 04, 2006, 06:16:34 am »
I made my first post yesterday in the ‘what do you want from the forums’ strand and a couple of people have nicely suggested that I should introduce myself.  As I said over there, I am HIV – but my wife (J) is HIV+.  We live in the UK, in the English Midlands and have been married for six years and together for over seven.

I’ve been visiting this site for around nine months but only registered this week.  I’ve never (knowingly) met anyone else apart from my wife with HIV, I’ve never spoken to anyone else about what she’s going through so it’s good to come here to see people discussing the problems they face openly and frankly.   This site has given me an incredible amount to think about and has sent me off to google on a number occasions looking for more information.  Although I’m a newcomer to this subject I have read about it obsessively since last November and now know more than I ever wanted to about the subject.  J and I first came here on the day she got her diagnosis so this forum has been an important part of us coming to terms with HIV.

J is originally Kenya although she has lived in the UK for around 12 years.  Despite the fact that she comes from a country with a very high HIV rate we suspect that she was probably infected in this country around 1998.  Fortunately we have moved on from thinking this is a death sentence and have now come to the realisation that with proper adherence and education there is no reason why J shouldn’t outlive me.  She will if I've got anything to do with it!  That’s not to downplay the seriousness of an HIV diagnosis or to deny other outcomes but there are people on this forum as living testimony to the fact that a long and happy life is completely possible.

Welcome, Frankie :)

Good to have you here, Frankie. You and your wife seem to have a great attitude about dealing with HIV.

You're always welcome here to ask questions and to discuss anything that's on your mind.

Cheers,

Frankie, and "J",

Jambo, na karibu.  See, you just never know who is sitting at their computer and observing the goings on.  I wish I remembered more Kiswahilli, but I don't, because I never use it any more.  Few here in Arizona, USA even understand where Swahilli comes from, let alone speak the language.  I also know a little Kikukyu, and Maasai.  Most of the other languages were quite foreign to me, and I didn't learn them.

OK, enough about me, I want to thank you for coming in and introducing yourself, and I look forward to many conversations with you in the future.  If you want to read of my past, there are tid-bits with photos, in my Blog, right here on this site.

In Love and Welcome.
Karibu!

and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

Welcome J and Frankie,

It's nice to step out from the shadows because now you can experience the true power of this site.  Take your time and when you have questions feel free to post them.  I just want to leave you with a little message for J.  Tell her you met a couple of posters today who have lived with HIV for over 22 years.  Like you said, there is no reason that she cannot lead a long and fulfilling live.  I know I have.

Once again, welcome.
