Looking for a Doctor in Florida for my Grandma
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:45:04 pm »
I'm posting here because the doctor isn't for me.  But if it needs to be moved then I understand.

My mommy, step-daddy, and Grandma moved to Hudson Florida.  Apparently the doctors in Florida are not as good as they are in PA.  The quote mom used is "they suck at their jobs".

She is looking for a geriatric doctor for grandma  and since Grandma has Alzheimers she would like one that is somewhat knowledgeable in the disease.

If any of my Florida friends know of any can you let me know?

Thanx

Whereabouts is Hudson? My mother lives in Marion County (Ocala) - they have both hit and miss doctors up that way...

Same here in Miami...

Unfortunately, it is like shopping for anything else.... It also takes some time to develop a rapport with a doctor - especially when we have become used to one somewhere else (or even in our current location).

I usually look online for reviews of doctors - there are a few different sites that offer reviews from patients. I also check the Department of Health licensing to see if there are any complaints, lawsuits, other info (such as specialties, insurance info, malpractices, etc).

Best of luck to your grandma - hopefully she (or you) will be able to find a "winner." in regards to a doctor.

grandma lives with mommy, and mommy is quite picky about the doctors she uses.
Hudson in about an hour from Tampa, near Port Ritchey. (I think it's Pasco county).

They are taking bets on wether or not I come back to PA. when I visit Florida the next time.

In PA.  we have the General Hospital thing.  All of the doctors are associated with them and they have great doctors.  We are spoiled here.

Mommy will find one eventually.  She's not the type of person who looks at the doctor and says ok, she asks questions and will tell them if she thinks they are  wrong. My first visit with my AIDS Dr. she informed him that I should have a heart test because heart disease runs in my family big time.

She was just surprised that with the heavy retired population that the doctors aren't any better then they are.
