Sorry - some more "newbie" questions re seroconversion
« on: June 01, 2013, 01:14:49 am »
Hey - thanks again - the support here is a huge help. Quick question. Background again is that I tested positive about 2 weeks ago and am on Atripla. However, before starting Atripla they did my numbers and were somewhat shocked because my immune numbers were great (over 1000) and my viral load was so low (under 400.). This did not make sense because FOR SURE this is a very recent infection. 5-15 weeks at most.

Anyway - the question is - I have been on Atripla for two weeks. No major side effects other than the normal occasional dizziness (minor) and the dreams. However, I have actually be "feeling" somehow sick in a minor way. Minor sore throat, minor cough, lynph nodes felt a tiny enlarged today - nothing major at all. A 1.5 on a scale of 1-10, nevertheless, feeling something. Is that normal? Is this sero-conversion? I thought once you started meds, sero-conversion kind of automatically stopped. I am scheduled to see the Doc in 2 weeks. Again - I feel fine - this is like a very, very minor cold, and I would not give it a second thought if I had not just been diagnosed Poz. Thoughts? Help? Anything is helpful. Thanks.

Steve, if it looks like a minor cold, walks like a minor cold and coughs like a minor cold, it's probably a minor cold.

You're still going to get all the usual aches, pains, colds, flues and tummy bugs that you did when you were hiv negative.

And no, it's not seroconversion illness. If you were only just now experiencing seroconversion illness, you would not have tested antibody positive.

With those status, you are either an Elite Long Term Nonprogressor which happens to about one half of one percent infected, or as Ann suggests, a sneeze rag, rather than Atripla might do the job.  My option is, with those stats, any HIV doc starting you on drugs, rather than introducing you to the National Institutes of Health should start themselves on Atripla, instead. In both cases, the drugs would have the same use, value, and results. None! And the doc would think twice before writing another useless script.

Are you a doctor?  The OP is a recent diagnosis and thinks also a recent infection.  We can assume the doctor is taking all this into consideration. Including the unusual numbers.  And yet you say his treatment is useless...

You are correct, Mitch. But if the VL sets at 400 after ARS, can't have a better result! With the intro of Atripla, he will never know if he is an Eilte or not.

Steve:

My apology. Having trust, confidence, and a good working relationship with your doctor is perhaps the most important thing of all. I am not a doc. And your are likely in very good hands!

I appreciate everyone's efforts.

The nurse who was assisting did say that she wondered if perhaps I could be a non-progressor. She has been in the field 20 years. However, with the recent anecdotal but important cases where very early treatment led to functional cure (the 14 Visconti, etc), the decision was made to go for the meds. To be honest, it was all a blur, and I really knew nothing, and had to essentially trust these medical professionals who have been in the field for years.

The only real side effect I am having 3 weeks on is serious fatigue. I can still work and function, but I do feel very tired a good portion of the time, even when I wake up from a solid night sleep. Might this side effect fade? Any one had this experience?

Thanks again. Everyones perspective helps!
