Title: Gabapentin dosing
Post by: AndyArrow on November 21, 2009, 12:38:18 am
Howdy Kids!

This morning was spent all day at my new clinic in Illinois where I met with a nurse practitioner, the doctor, a case worker, a medical assistant who gave me both the seasonal & the H1N1 (one in each arm) & the pharmacist  (who gave me a lovely new pill case courtesy of Lexiva, which I don't take, that has a cover and is actually big enough to hold all my am & pm meds).  Anyway, I was talking to the pharmacist about my mid-day gabapentin which I have been known on more than one occasion to forget to take until it's time the evening dose.  She said it was no problem to take them both together and since they have some sedative effect it might help with some of my sleep issues (PN always is worse at night also).  She also said one of her clients takes all 3 together -- don't think I'm gonna go that route but 1 in the morning and 2 at night sounds good to me so I wondered if anyone else was presented with this option.

Discuss!!  :D

Hey Andy,

Yeah, I'm prescribed to take 900 mgs of Gabapentin 3 x a day, but I usually forget the afternoon dose.  I don't double up, though, I just take 1 in the evening.  I've been on it for so long, it doesn't make me drowsy at all.  What the pharmacist told you sounds logical, though.  And hopefully it will help with your sleep issues.

I take all of my Gabapentin/Neurontin at night, one hour before bedtime, but it's only 900mg.  Sometimes I think I could try and go without it at all and maybe I'll try it and see.

Day 2 and haven't noticed any difference but I didn't expect to this soon either.

After a month on this I'll talk about upping my dose if I don't see much relief since I only take 300mg 3x a day.  I told her my last doc was reluctant to even go up to that amount (which I knew was rather low from what you told me you take, BT) she just rolled her eyes and said to try this dosing and if no relief tell the doc to up it.  I'm so glad I'm away from my last dr.  His office was more of a medical factory than anything else.

Hey Andy,

I take 600mgs 2X   One in the morning, one at night. While my pain level is tolerable, I do spend a lot of the day looking at the back of my eyelids.
