Health Insurance in Florida: questions and answers?
« on: July 20, 2006, 11:23:16 am »
I know each state is different in regards to health insurance and HIV+ people, but can any of you offer any insight in regards to a decent health insurance provider in Florida? I need to get one more carrier other than Humana and I have no idea where to look. My google searches have been a pain in the ass and unproductive.

Also, do health insurance companies test for HIV before approving you for a policy? I'm totally in the dark about everything in regards to HI and being HIV+/having AIDS, anything you can tell me in regards to how to go about getting a good carrier will help me out a lot. Thanks.

sunny, your very best bet for health insurance is to go to work somewhere where you can get group insurance so you don't have to qualify.  Generally speaking all individual medical companies if they don't lab test will at least ask the question regarding HIV  and since you are entering into a potential financial contract with the insurance carrier they most likely will decline you.  There are certain rules that can protect you if you are coming off of a group plan., however you don't indicate that is the case.

Best of Luck!

Kent

Do you know if there's a way to get around the lab test part of it? Or maybe a way to get someone thats HIV- to take the test for you without them knowing they're not really you?
