JRE; I can't understand that you put so much time & energy into your lab results. The only numbers my ID doc tells me are my CD4 & viral load. He told me my creatinine when it was creeping up & we decided to stop my Viread. He told me my cholesterol and triglycerides when they were creeping up & he added Fenofibrate to my regimen. That's it.

I think you might need to consider another hobby other than your lab numbers. I do volunteer work, reading, walking & swimming to keep busy; in addition to the never-ending house work & taxes.

I did get PO'd in June when the lab didn't run my viral load, so I won't get my blood drawn on a weekend again like I did that time. This week my my VR was up to 20 (from undetectable for 10 years) so I wonder what it would have been in June. Hugs from Provincetown, Deibster

Howdy,....

Trust me, I have plenty of hobbies and interests going on.  I have a partner of 31 years, a home that we maintain, a full time job,  I am close to 60 years of age, and I try to keep myself as involved with the issues as much as I possibly can.

I really don't post this for my benefit.  It just a sloppy attempt, at an online journal, ( of sorts),  to let others know what health events etc,  are going on in my life of living with HIV for 26 years.

I am pleased you post the ins and outs off maintaining health , it gives a picture to others who maybe think HIV is no big deal.

Like a lot off people here I know how bad things can get ,on top off that I seem to be regularly hearing a new form off denial that is that HIV is no big deal , the drugs stop it blah  blah blah blah.

So thanks.

Update 10/1/11

I went to the VA yesterday for my eye exam.  Looks as though I will be needing a new pair of glasses, otherwise, all looks fine with the eyes. He noticed two very small hemorages in the right eye, but I have had them for a while.  pressures were good -no signs of cataract  8)

Looks like the new glasses will make my eyes bug out even more.    ::)

While I was at the VA, I picked up the results for the carotid artery duplex scan, (Doppler) done on 9/13/11.

Not sure what all these numbers mean, but here's the results :  :P

Ray; I'm glad your eyes are doing well. I have to get stronger glasses every few years & I know how important great eyesight is, &, how easily problems with it cause stress in one's life.

I admire that you're still working; I've been on disability since 53 yrs old because I was putting too much effort into my job & the stress was effecting my health. I'm married to my best friend - a man - so we work on the house together. Hugs, Deibster

I just got off the phone with the VA. The nurse is going to speak with my primary care, and get another viral load test scheduled for October 20th.

HHHmmmmm   :-\     ....  I've been undetectable since 04. I wonder if my regemin has finally begun failing.

Hey Ray,

It could be just a blip, or that the blood sample wasn't handled properly.

Try not to sweat it, which, I know, is easier said than done.

Thanks Mark,...

I knew my blood tests results from 9/28 would be ready to view on line, at the VA website, so I was quite surprised when I saw the 1,075 copies of viral load, this morning when I came home from work.

Hopefully it's an error, I'm not going to worry much about it. There is nothing I can do about it right now anyways.

I had a lipid panel and metabolic panel, already scheduled  for October 20th.  The triage nurse ( that I spoke with today) said that she will message my primary care and get another viral load scheduled along with the lipid and metabolic panel.

When I check in on 10/20, I will make sure that this test is on there.  I also have a follow up appointment on  10/25 to discuss the results of the lipid panel, and another appointment with the HIV specialist on the the 31st of October.

I am not sure if the viral load test result will be ready on the  25th. It's cutting it kind of close.

Thanks----Ray

Update from blood test taken on 10/20/11

Overall, my primary care is pleased with these numbers, but insists on improving diet, and getting more exercise. Good news is , there will be no change in the cholesterol medication.

I have an appointment, next Monday ( Oct 31st) to discuss the 1,075 viral load from September 28,2011.  I thought they were going to schedule a retest, last Monday but they ( The HIV specialist decided to hold off on that. So this will be our discussion this coming Monday.

UPDATE--- 10/31/11

Ed and I,  drove down to Bay Pines VAMC this morning.  I had to be there by  9:00 am.  I was first met by Ginny Boucher.  She is the Ryan White Coordinator at the VAMC.  We had a nice talk for a while.  She had stated that changes were ahead for Ryan White program at Bay Pines.  Which meant added staff to help coordinate.

I then met with the doctor to discuss the viral load test on Sep 28th.  He had already arranged a new viral load test, so after our discussion today, I went down to the labs dept, and they drew 3 vials for that that purpose.

I also had an TB (PPD) test this morning.  So, Thursday morning ( after work) I will go to the clinic, and let one of the nurses read that.

The doctor says it could be a lab error with the 1,075 in the viral load, but also stated that a genotype may be necessary, and has already arranged that should that be the case, depending on results. We discussed the possibility of alternate regimens.

So, just got to wait for the results now.

The PPD went well. Results--- Negative.   I had the RN, on my shift at work last night , look at it, and she reported the findings to the VA, by leaving a voice-mail to the Ryan White coordinator.  She said I could this, plus it saved me a trip. The RW coordinator will get this placed into the VA system.

As far as the viral load, haven't heard anything yet.  I've been checking on the VA website for the results, but nothing has been posted yet.  There a little sluggish getting things on the site,  I will probably hear from the doctor first through snail mail. But I will be checking the site daily !

Otherwise, all is going well, and thank God/goddesses,.. it's my Friday night at work tonight !  :)  Time for the weekend !

Hey Guys!,... UPDATE November 27, 2011

I was checking on line with the VA last night, and another portion of tests just appeared.  Looks as though they did a genotype, ( which explains the delay),  but the results, they provided are sketchy.  I will start another thread, when I get the full results of the genotype/ Mutations.  I will be going to the VA, a week from this Monday to get those results.

Until then, this is the only info I can get: I will try to copy and paste from the site:

                          TEST NAME
1.HIV PROTEASE GENE MUTATIONS DETECTED             comment                                               Details

2.HIV REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE+PROTEASE GENE MUTATIONS TESTED FOR                   Details

4.HIV REVERSE TRANSCRIPTASE GENE MUTATIONS DETECTED    comment                          Details

When I click on the individual "Detail" from top to bottom,(1-4) this is what I get:

I've never seen it written that way.

Usually, when then do a resistance test, they will provide a list of drugs and then list whether there are mutations and corresponding resistance, and usually the particular mutation.

Some are worse than others. Some mutations are merely "safe but keep an eye on them,."

Others indicate a medication or, sometimes, an entire class of medications are no longer usable.

Let us know what your doc says Ray.

Hello Mark,

I'm not scheduled for any doctors visits until February 6th,11.  As Ron stated, if the doctor hasn't called by now, apparently he feels there is nothing to be concerned about.  :P

I will be going to the VA on Monday, just to release of information. There, I can get a copy of the full results of the genotype.  Ill let you know what the results say.

HUGS,

Ray & Mark I had one in Nor-cal before i moved to NM, and another one here in NM in 2004/05 right before I started FEZ-EON, guess they wanted to find out if i could take that drug, I have some resistance to some drugs , some of the newer ones, and cannot take some of them, I forget witch ones, it no big deal really, just about everyone of us LTS has some type of drug resistance, I've been on MEDS for 22 yrs. and started out w/ AZT, and whatever came after that, so I suppose that might be why......

Update 12/5/11

We went down to the VA, today,  to get those results , and there is basically nothing different than what I received on the website. This is all there is...

I took two pictures though, of the results from the VA,  Not sure how they will come out though:

Nothing more to report....   :P

That isn't what any of mine ever looked like. Mine had bar graphs illustrating resistance levels per each available HIV medication, then more detailed gene mutation information below that.

I guess I need to be more assertive.  I had my first geno testing 2 years ago but never saw results.  Just told that I had several resistance issues.  Gonna contact him today and request a copy.  Don't know why, but I want mine too.

I always get copies of all my labs, etc., because I keep track of them. I have records back to 1980, which is really anal, but . . .

Looking forward to meeting you in DC also.  Congrats on your numbers.  They're looking pretty good.  I've also managed to get my numbers looking good also except for the %.  I guess 25 year of havoc can't be corrected in short order.

Take care

Hey Ray,

I envy your HDL results. I think the highest mine have been is 40, and we had a party to celebrate!

From what I can tell, you're still looking good.

HUGS,

Hello all,...  UPDATE 10/26/12

Thought Id give an update , since it's been awhile:

Overall, things are going well. CD-4's are near 500, viral load undetectable

I've had quite a few appointments scheduled within the past few months:

03/19/2013 13:20    BP OPTOM MILLER FULL BL 106    BAY PINES
01/28/2013 08:30    BP ID SIMOES REC 5D    BAY PINES
12/24/2012 08:30    BP LAB OUTPATIENT 3D    BAY PINES
11/29/2012 11:00    BP DERM MULLER BL22-218    BAY PINES
11/21/2012 11:00    PH PC DUNNAGAN    PALM HARBOR CBOC
11/14/2012 08:00    PH LAB FASTING    PALM HARBOR CBOC
09/24/2012 09:00    BP ID SIMOES REC 5D    BAY PINES
09/17/2012 13:20    BP OPTOM MILLER FULL BL 106    BAY PINES

I have fasting labs scheduled for 11/14/12, and a follow up consultation with my primary care on 11/21/12

I had another eye exam done, on9/17/12,.. slight change again in prescription, but they wanted me to come back for a follow up on 3/19/13. Their wanting to keep a watch on some blood vessels, in my right eye, and see if anything progresses with that.

I have a follow up/ check up with the dermatologist on 11/29/12. Back around 6 months ago I had a few things frozen off.  The worst one, being behind my left ear. No signs of that one retuning ! I think things are going to look good for that follow up.

The last time I spoke with the ID doctor he suggested that I consider going for labs, once every 4 months instead of every 3. I have no problem with that, so that is already in place.

I have my HIV labs scheduled for 12/24/12, and a follow up consultation on 1/28/13

There also began writing all prescriptions, for 90 day intervals with one refill.  I do like that!! so now Simvastatin, blood pressure, and HIV meds, are ordered once every 3 months.

I am happy to say that the VA, is taking very good care of me !

I feel pretty good, could still loose some weight, ( current weight is 173.0 lbs. blood pressure has been fine. We''ll see on the next fasting labs, how the cholesterol is doing.

Looking good bud!   I think it's pretty standard to switch to every 4 month testing once your number as doing good.  For me, I appreciated it as I have to drive quite a distance.

Wishing you continued improvement.
