Title: Remote Work and HIV
Post by: twz90s on October 05, 2010, 10:21:33 pm
Hello everyone.

I am a Nurse and am considering a 3 year contract up in Nunavut, Canada (East Arctic).

My Doctor actually didn't sound very concerned when I told her what I was considering...all she said was "we'll send you up with 6 months worth of medications and you can see us every six months".

Why? Do you ask? I want to eliminate my mortgage, make the most out of my healthy years just incase my situation does deteriorate.  Plus I want to do something crazy that says I can still do almost anything I want.  I also want to become more outdoorsy and focus on my health, eating and physical activities.

I don't know why I am on here, but I am excited yet apprehensive with the great unknown.  I have not been ill once since diagnosis and my labs and VL remain in great ranges.  It's just a little agitating being away from any advanced facilities.

Anyone else work remotely on here or don't see their Dr. that often? Love to hear some thoughts  :)

Be kind of neat to do a blog of Northern Living and Living with HIV.

PS Also leaving my partner of 10 years behind to work and man our Condo.

Actually I think it's sounds like a lot of fun and at your age you should do such things.  I hope you return here and update us on what it's like in Nunavut.

For those of us that no-longer are able-to explore the world, we admire your opportunity. Experiences, once had, are something that can never be taken away. Best of luck to you!

I admire your adventurous attitude.  I'm almost 2 years post-diagnosis and I still worry about things like going camping out in the middle of no where.  I hope to get to the point where I don't let fear run my life and get adventurous like you.  Good luck and let us know how it is going.

You should watch every episode of Northern Exposure and then regale us with the crazy antics of the indigenous peoples.  Although at this point I expect them to play hockey, eat maple syrup, drink a lot a beer and end every sentence with, "eh?".  Much like Joe.

That all sounded great until I read the part about leaving your partner behind...
I've been in a relationship for 12 years and there is no way I could survive 3 years apart from him!  :o  (but maybe I'm just selfish that way!  :P )
Do you really feel you can make it apart that long?
No mortgage is nice, but if you have no one to share the place with when you get back is it worth it?
I say figure out how to take your man with you!   ;D
