Questions about oral
« on: March 04, 2013, 05:49:44 pm »
Hi everyone,
First of all I just wanted to say that I think this forum is great. HIV/AIDS is something that should be taken seriously and I think that an open forum for asking/answering questions is the best way to inform the general public.

Moving right along, I have a few questions not only about my "chances" of getting HIV. Here is my situation.

Exactly one week ago, I had a sexual encounter with a girl who I have no way of contacting (It was a one time heat of the moment encounter. It was definitely not a prostitute). During this encounter, we gave each other unprotected oral, and we had protected intercourse. I am not aware of her HIV status, nor her potential history of drug use etc., although I did ask her if she was disease free and she said "Yeah", but lying is a pretty easy thing to do unfortunately. Now, here are my questions.

-Am I at risk of contracting HIV from receiving oral? I know that the general consensus for an answer is "NO!", but I am uncut, and I read somewhere that the HIV virus can be absorbed through the head of the penis if there is foreskin because the head is more sensitive in these cases. It also said that even the tiniest amount of blood can cause infection through the head. There were no cuts anywhere on my penis, and there was no visible blood in her mouth

-Am I at risk of contracting HIV from giving oral? I did brush my teeth around half an hour before, and I read that doing that can cause abrasions that allow the virus into my system, although I am skeptical

Thank you very much, everyone. Let me just finish by saying that I respect all of you for sharing your knowledge and stories. You are all very strong

Hi contra . The encounter you had is not a risk for HIV and you need not test over the incident .

There have been no fewer than three separate serodiscordant couples studies (where one person is HIV positive, the other negative.) These couples were tracked for three. five and ten years. The couples used condoms for penetrative vaginal and anal sex, but NO BARRIER at all for oral sex. Any kind of oral sex.

These studies yielded NO infections.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid exposure to HIV . Its good to keep this in mind also , don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than HIV. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Hi Contra ... I have removed your post from living with HIV so that you may ask another question if you need too without having to purchase an account .

As a HIV negative person seeking risk assessment you are only allowed to post in this thread in this forum , thanks for your understanding . Jeff .
