Title: Re: Anal cancer test! Not my idea for fun.

Hi Alain,

I went through this about a year ago.  It's good your doctor(s) are giving you this check-up.  My tests came back positive for high grade lesions, so they had to be removed.  These lesions could develop into cancer, but I guess they don't know for sure, so they just remove the entire area.  That procedure is very uncomfortable, (well not during the procedure because you're put under, at least I was), but afterwards it was very uncomfortable.  But I'm glad I went through with it, because you're better safe than sorry I suppose.

Well let us know how you fare on the test results and if you have any further questions, feel free to discuss them here.  If you get a positive test result, don't panic....I think it sounds a lot worse than it is.  When the doctor called to give me my results, he had me thinking I had anal cancer (using too many technical terms that I was unfamiliar with)....but I didn't, it's just that I tested positive for cells that have a higher risk of turning into cancer, (thanks to Tim Horn's very detailed and supportive posts).

Anyways, a lot of guys here have been through this and the information they provided me was invaluable.

Cliff
P.S.- Are you able to take a friend to help bridge the communication gap?  You shouldn't leave until you understand everything they say, even if they need to go the extra mile to ensure that you do.

Alain,

I think it is very important for your doctor to give you information tailored to your particular style of learning.  That's one of the very basic tenets of care.  I'm concerned that being overwhelmed with new faces and info will prevent you from getting the info you need -- please, please have them write everything down for you in addition to the lip reading.

And good luck with your tests.

Take care,
John
