Low Profile, Busy Life, and New Labs
« on: April 22, 2009, 09:07:36 pm »
I feel somewhat guilty to chime in every few months and then hightail it back to things less virtual -- but I'll do it anyway, because I think it's important for some to hear that living with HIV isn't a death sentence, despite it being challenging. In the last few months, I've managed to finish university (diagnosed in my 2nd year) and have found a decent grad school at which to do my masters. I've also been quite busy writing, attending/presenting at conferences in my field, and will soon have my first article published. In some twisted way, I thank this little virus for lighting the fire under my but -- I've never thought of myself as a quitter -- and the challenges of finishing school, sleeping and eating enough, and educating myself in and out of the classroom has been a crazy ride at times. I guess this business is why I don't come here as often as I might like.

After being diagnosed with a CD4 of 45 some three years ago, I am stoked -- even more than the paper being published -- to chime in with a CD4 now topping 500. I've been taking things a day at a time, but at this particular milestone, I can't help but think that I'll be around for a little while longer  ;)
