Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

I have read many times on this site that protected sex is just that protected and i had protected sex with a prostitute. But i experienced symptoms exactly 3 weeks from my incident such as fatigue, low grade fever and i had a couple of lil sores in my mouth which have gone away. Now i know protected sex is protected and my condom did not fail.

But considering my symptoms are in the time frame of ARS symptoms do you think i could have gotten something? My main question is that would having  symptoms which may be those of ARS within 2-4 weeks after exposure be something i should be worried about? And do people who have symptoms which are linked to ARS withing the time frame usually test positive for HIV? Man the thought of having HIV has been killing me mentally and i sure hope i didn't catch something.

Worried, if by protected you mean you used a condom for intercourse, then you were indeed protected as far as HIV is concerned. Latex condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission.

As far as your symptoms are concerned, that's something to discuss with your doctor. We do advise anyone who's sexually active to have at least annually a full STD panel done. Other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV.

Nothing you are reporting leads me to believe you have an HIV problem. I don't see any need for HIV testing in relation to the incident you are concerned about.

Thanks for your post Andy. Yes i did have a condom on for the intercourse and it did not break. Only thing that worried me is that i felt rather fatigued like 3 weeks after the incident and kinda ill generally. And when i started worrying that i might have caught something i read on the net that intial symptoms of hiv can appear 2-4 weeks after exposure. Thus, when i starting feeling fatigued and not feeling well i started worrying.

If your symptoms continue then you should discuss them with your doctor. This is not about HIV. Condoms provide VERY effective protection. So as far as HIV is concerned you are worrying needlessly. And do yourself a big favor and stop surfing the net for (mis)information about HIV. You have no cause for concern this time.
