Lab work and HIPPA

I work in the medical field and have a pretty decent job at a small communtiy hospital.  Our insurance benefits are pretty good, except for one tiny factor.  It is a home host plan; which means as long as I have everything done at my hospital,  blood work, xray, diagnostic testing, etc. it is covered 100%.  Anywhere else it is covered 70/30.  That goes for hospital admission also.  I know as soon as I show up with the orders from the dr. for my labs, ie. anything related to HIV, my secret will be out.  I know there are HIPPA laws that are supposed to protect me and everyone else here in the U.S., but, I can tell you from working in the medical field, HIPPA is bullshit, especially in a small community.
Currently, I go to my counties health department for my lab work-its anonymous and free.  Anyone in a similar situation? Or offer any advice?

 I work in a hospital too and, you're right: HIPPA don't mean shit to those people. I hear my coworkers talking about the patients all the time when they have no business doing so. If I ever get wind they they have snooped in my patient profile, I won't hesitate to take the matter to HR. I do know of several employees over the years who have been dismissed for HIPPA violations. I should add that I have never been an inpatient there so there should be no need for them to go into my profile. It's supposed to be on a need to know basis.
