Problems with mouth, run down and miserable
« on: June 21, 2011, 02:03:05 pm »
Feeling massively run down at the mo and I'm concerned about my mouth, I have ulcers all the time and the sides of my mouth are cracking and red.  The dentist told me I have a white patch on my tongue which needs to be checked out, which really worries me, got it into my head I've got cancer or something.  I get vaginal thrush around twice a month.  I'm worn out all the time.

I eat rubbish, don't exercise, smoke and drink alcohol.  Is it time for meds or will a  massive overhaul of my health be just as beneficial?  I guess I already know the answer but I feel so low at the moment I just don't have the energy or the will to find it in me to sort myself out.

It kind of sometimes feels like 'what's the point' in trying to be healthier when my body is now already wrecked from the hiv and will never ever be better.  The only time I seem to feel 'normal' is when I've had a drink but I pay for it big time the day after when I feel even more low.  I'm not depressed, I don't even have the energy to be depressed if that makes sense.  I'm working full time and looking after my little one so that's another reason to feel exhausted but I've had enough now.  I'm dizzy and faint all the time from being so tired and it's starting to affect my work.

My latest numbers are below and obviously show that my VL has doubled over the past 6 months, not sure why...but could it be that which is making me feel so rubbish?  (UK guidlines don't recommend meds till 350 so I'm guessing I should be ok for the time being???)

Sorry for the moan...I'm miserable and needed to vent.  Any advice would be appreciated.

You have given yourself all the advice you need -- "eat rubbish, don't exercise, smoke and drink" and "is it time for meds?".  You know what to do about all of that.

You can turn this around.  It may take years to change some of your habits, but there is no reason you cannot begin today.  Take a small step in a positive direction and build some confidence.  That'll lead to bigger steps.  Hang in there.

Apples and oranges.  Bad diet, smoking, and drinking and sloth - these won't give you AIDS and changing these won't cure you of HIV.

If you lived healthier, you might feel better.  Exercise alone can cut any stress.  Good food - always important.

Maybe its times for HAART to feel "like youself".

I am with meech. Your life style is going to make you feel like crap even without being +!  I feel so much better since I started meds. Somedays I am a little tired but hell I am nearly 56.

I was having thrush and ulcers constantly before HAART, what was your last Cd4 result and how long ago was that?

Much much higher than mine even now.  Not sure but everyone is a little bit different.  I would think with your numbers it wouldn't be HIV as the root cause of this, but stranger things have happened.

TP, I would suspect that high viral load is the cause of your problems. Even though the UK guidelines are to start at or below 350 CD4s, exceptions can be and are made when one has a consistently high VL like yours and particularly in combination with the other problems you've been having. You've had a VL of over 100,000 for over a year now and that cannot be doing you any favours. Your CD4s have also been steadily declining during this time.

It really does sound like it's time to re-start the meds. Please discuss this with your doctor ASAP.

Better to start your own thread in Living With rather than hijack someone else's -- that would be the best way to get response(s) to your question.

i felt the same exact way you did at one time
even the dizzy head in the morning.
the only differance is i'm on meds
and i hated it so damm freakin much that i did something about it.
if i didn't take action, i think i was well on the way to insainity
what did i do?
i quit smoking,and drinking ( i wasn't enjoying it anymore it
made me feel like crap) started eating better and i got
off my lazy ass and started to execise, even enough to go buy a mountian bike
that i now ride every day.
when feel down or frustrated i take it out on the bike!
and i will pedal it that much harder.
at first to be honest it felt like i was going to kill myself doing it
i would come home totally drenched in sweat, ready to pass out.
but after i got past that initial hump it has been well worth the effort.
you can feel somewhat better
it is just alot of hard work to do it.
