Stigma thrives when individuals accept shame.  Continuing to internalize shame gives power to those who wish to stigmatize others.  Someone could refer to me as an AIDS infected faggot and it would NOT affect me.  These types of people are so irrelevant that it receives no more than a few seconds of my life.

I'll have to explain my relevancy theory to you all someday.  I've shared it people and they love it and adopt it for themselves.

Oh hell, I'll take a few moments and post it now.

I pretty much place everyone on a relevancy scale from 0 - 10.  Those at the lowest end of the spectrum have no power to affect me.  Those on the higher end have the most power to inject pain as I have a greater commitment to them.  People can fluctuate on this scale.  I've reduced 10's down to 0's and vice versa

Wolfie's Theory of Relevancy™ is why I don't "fight" with anyone in the forums anymore. If it gets that's bad all I have to do is realize those people have ZERO relevancy to my life, so they are not worth my time or efforts

Now, if I could only apply that philosophy to Facebook.  ;) but being a health care advocate, some of those stupid people do have a tiny bit of relevancy to the disinformation that permeates life and to the stigma that many try to perpetuate and I can't help but engage with them. I only let them get to a 2 or 3 though ;)
