On January 8, I had sex with a man who told me he got tested for diseases while he was in alcoholic rehab a few months ago(He told me it's by law in NJ for people in rehab to be tested for diseases). I now don't believe him and went and got tested today. I came back negative.

He didn't ejaculate and probably didn't pre-ejaculate either since he had an ED disorder while we were doing it and was only in me for five minutes.

When's the next time I should go for a re-test?

You put yourself at risk. To get a conclusive test result, you need to get your conclusive test at 3 month after your last unprotected sex.

As Rodney says, you need to test at three months after having unprotected intercourse with someone whose hiv status you do not know with any accuracy.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

Firstly, I want to thank you guys for helping me earlier this year with my HIV question. I thought I was infected because I slept with a drug dealer/addict. The good news is that I'm negative. I haven't had intercourse since February so that conclusion is not debatable. However, I got a letter in the mail that I was exposed to Hepatitis C, B, and syphilis so I got tested for Hepatitis C and syphilis, but not Hepatitis B because they don't do that testing at the GMHC center. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get tested for Hepatitis B either in the city or in NJ(I'm underinsured). I live part-time in the city(weekends) and in NJ on weekdays. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello,

        I'm in my late 20s and am a rape survivor. The rape came with a price. I just found out I'm positive for herpes and am waiting for my HIV results. I feel so horrible now since I found a wonderful guy who treats me right and goes to places with me like the movies. I don't know how to tell me about my results(just for the record, he and I haven't had sex since he likes waiting at least a year of dating), especially if my HIV results are pos. He's such a good man.

Now, I have so much going in my mind and had no where else to turn to since I tried calling up hotlines for support groups and couldn't find any.

Any support or where there are support groups in NJ would be appreciated.

Please re-read your entire thread as it gives you the basics.

There is no point in telling you about support groups for hiv - you have not tested hiv positive.

As you will be reminded when you read your entire thread, a test at three months past the last incident of unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse will be conclusive.

Just because you got herpes from this attack doesn't mean you will automatically be infected with hiv.
