Movies Id Like To See Remade....
« on: March 22, 2007, 02:25:05 pm »
We cant escape it, Hollywood just isnt supporting original work worth a damn. Theyre throwing 20 or 30 million into a production and they want a sure thing. Too bad that doesnt always work out ..
E.G : Miami Vice, Casino Royale, Assault on Precinct 13,  Bad News Bears..  Pretty much all of the Batman Movies. ( except Batman Begins )  the latest Superman.   ad Nauseum.

To their credit, there have been some excellent remakes done over the last few years.. The Manchurian Candidate,  Oceans 11,   well those are the only ones that come to mind..

As I sit here and watch  the original  ' the Swarm" on Chiller Network I cant help but think of some  classics Id like to see made into current big Budget productions..

both TV shows and Movies are fair game..  first up..

'Hawaii Five O'  cmon how has this slipped under the radar. they could get Steven Segal to be MacGarret  and that redheaded guy from CSI to be Danno . Book em Dann O

'The 6 Million Dollar Man'  although with inflation it should be the 6 Billion Dollar Man. Not sure who would play the lead, maybe Vin Diesel...

'The Prisoner' it would be such a shot at the Gitmo detainee and secret prison scandall that it would be banned.

'Prisoner Cell Block H '  anyone remember this series ??  its set in a british womens prison.  It could be like OZ for women.

" Creature From The Black Lagoon"  oh ya.. this one is good for a few sequels too.

" Green Acres"  cmon give it a shot, with the right actors it could be great..

any ideas ???

GREAT IDEAS Lwood!

I will give this some thought.  And post later.
LIFE is not a race to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty and well-preserved body, but, rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming--WOW! WHAT A

Prisoner Cell Block H was a real cult classic.  It was actually an Australian epic.

It wasn't shown over here until years after it had finished.

It was so popular that is spawned a stage show.

Very popular with the ladies who munch.

You thought the Machurian Candidate was excellent?  They didn't even do the Queen of Hearts thing, they lost all symbolism and tension.  It was a good movie, but not even close to being as compelling as the original.

Movies to remake?  Are there any left?

I'd like to see "the Women" entirely performed by bull dykes.

The Bad Seed
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (at least 3 versions exist but it could still be done well again (the original 1956 movie and 1978 remake are fantastic, the 90s remake so-so to bad))

And I'm not talking about musicals, you BYT!

I've never seen Bambi.

I loved that movie when I was in high school!

The sheer overactiness of it all.

And would it be way too obvious to suggest Bambi in The Deer Hunter?

The only Francis Bean I know of is Courtney Love's kid.

Kathleen Hanna?  The Bikini Kill grrrl?

Unfortunately, I don't know much of anything about Woman Under the Influence.  No fathering of anal babies for me...unless I get paternity rights for knowing who Hanna is.  One anal baby maybe?

I thought she'd be barren or something.

OK... Kathleen Hanna was in Bikini Kill... and for that you get an analbaby abortion.

She is also the lead singer of Le Tigre.

On their first self-titled album, they had a song called "What's Yr Take on Cassavetes?"  It's still a big hit when played at parties with cool kids.

What's your take on Cassavetes?

With the latest Computer Animation alot of old sci Fi movies with cheesey Special Effects could really be done well.  I thought that for sure Fantastic Voyage would have been done by now.
The thing is they need to get writers that are worthy of the Mega FX budgets, I mean look at the new King Kong,, it was amazing but the characters and story just sucked.

Then take a look at the New Battlestar Galactica.. now the original series was some seriously cheesey crap but the new one is amazing. Easily one of the best shows on.

I keep reading rumors about the next Star Trek movie, that theyre considering doing a 'Young Kirk and Spock' storyline.. just who in tne hell would they get to star in THAT one..  Id nominate Elijah Woods as a young Spock... ( or possibly Daniel Radcliff, if he can keep it in his pants )  but Im stuck for Kirk.. ANY IDEAS?

Oh, they want a 30-something??  Oh, okay, I'm more clear now. Scratch Haley Joel Osment then. (I thought it was a "Young Sherlock Holmes" type deal)

Then for young Spock, Keanu Reeves

Oh for the dear Love of God.  But if they want a Young William Shatner, I suppose Biscuit Face could pull it off.  I immediately thought of Keanau as a spock,  but I was also wondering just what age they were thinking about... Are we talking Starfleet freshmen, or more of the First Assignment here ??

The obvious prob here is that those two both get HUGE salaries
Might as well cast Bones and Scottie while we're at it..

I think Sean Astin (Sam from Lawd of the rings) could be a damn near perfect young Scottie

Maybe some young hottie  could pull off a decent Uhura as well, but Im not familiar with young female hotties  untill they crash and burn in the Tabloids...

a Young  Christian Slater = perfect Dr.McCoy... they're doing wonders with makeup so he just might work.. again it depends on what the age bracket is for the story..

Christian Slater is a huge Trek nerd... had a cameo in Star Trek VI.  Good times.

Philly,
Segal makes me want to hurl too. I think the best role he ever had was in Air Force One, mostly because he dies in the first five minutes of the flick ;D ;D
A favorite movie of mine has been remade recently, and is scheduled for release in July. John Waters fans rejoice, Hairspray is get a makeover. Unfortunately, what with Divine being dead and all they were forced to recast the role of Edna Turnblad. And of all people to get Edna's part, I think that the choice of (none other than) John Travolta, is a stroke of genius.
As far as remakes to be, who can live without a remake of Plan 9 From Outer Space?

Capt Carl who will be at the theatre on opening night for Hairspray, with a lap full of popcorn, and a head full of mushrooms :-* :-*
The only thing I can do straight is shoot..

They're remaking Hairspray!

With John Travolta as Edna Turnblad?

I am a huge John Waters fan. I will be there with bells on and my Polyester scratch and sniff card.

Speaking of oft overlooked John Waters films, how about "Lust in the Dust," with Divine wearing out an entire band of Mexican bandits - and their donkey.

Then, there was "Cry Baby," which made me want to .... on Johnny Depp's  ... especially during the underwear scene with the rat.

But, I digress.

I think Creature from the Black Lagoon is a definite yes, as is Fantastic Voyage and Plan 9 from Outer Space with my hero, Bela Lugosi.

HUGS,

Mark

Mark,
Lust in ths Dust is a great one too! But it isn't a John Waters movie though, not that it really matters. Tab Hunter, and a VERY buxom Lanie Kazan also did great in this one. Whatever happened to Red Dick/Dead Dick?

CaptCarl  who is going to look for some Waters movies to rent this weekend

I thought the same thing. but Jennifer Hudson's gotta have a specially-written guest character who stuns the audience and gets all the notice.

Yep, that's the idea  :D

And I'm for any remake that includes Paul Weller getting as naked as he can.

Fortunately, my Super Dreamy Petit Ami Louis Garrel gets naked in virtually every movie he's ever made.

http://www.louisgarrel.net/

I had to Google him and...hmmmmmmmmmm.

A little long in the hair and thin in the flanks for me, but I'm sure he has a dreamy quality in motion that doesn't come through in stills.

Maybe both Louis and Paul (and Vin, too) could star in a musical remake of Derek Jarman's Sebastiane. That I'd pay to see.

OK,  So Steven Segal isnt a very hot choice for McGarret, I was just going by appearance..
I guess Keanu  could pull off a good MacGarret cheap suit and all.

I just watched 'The Departed' and I just cant see matt Damon as Kirk, ( although, I REALLY like the way this movie ends  ;D)

A few more that would be a chuckle might be 'Cannon' with Jack Black

and  'Beretta' with Benecio delTorrro

I dont suppose theres any Producer out there with enough ass in his pants to pull off a current version of M.A.S.H  which in its original form was actually pretty anti war. Ditto  with 'Catch 22'  I mean if there was ever a catch 22 war  this one is it.

We cant escape it, Hollywood just isnt supporting original work worth a damn. Theyre throwing 20 or 30 million into a production and they want a sure thing. Too bad that doesnt always work out ..
E.G : Miami Vice, Casino Royale,

You didn't like the new Casino Royale, compared to the original?  Was there anything worth saving in the confused mess that was the original (maybe the theme song)?  It always seemed to me that the writer must have been dropping too much 60's psychadelic pharmaceuticals!
