Hi Everyone i was wondering if anyone on here works on cars?

Sometimes.  I am very good at swinging a hammer.   :P

This is the switch that ( on some cars) is on the transmission/ transaxle.  It has a couple wires coming out of it, and plugs into a connector,... and this is what turns on, the reverse lights.

I've changed one before, on a Chevy sprint, years ago It was easy.

What year, make and model car are you changing this out on. Is this a manual or automatic transmission?

Ray

EDITED to ADD:  Did you check the backup light fuse first, to make sure that its not blown?

Are you confusing the backup switch (for the reverse lights) with the neutral switch?  A little more info and I'd be glad to assist you.

hehehee... I was wondering why someone would need to backup their car. Thought you only needed to do that with computer files. ;D

Thanks  Yes Wolfie it is for the backup lights.  Ray it is a 1990 corvette.  Six speed.  I ordered the switch but it looks so tight under there. I hate tight spaces.

How did you determine it's the switch if you're not sure where it's located?  Are you just assuming without testing in the correct order?  I'd test first to make sure you not have voltage out of the switch before replacing it.  There are too many other possibilities.

Best of luck.  Since you own a classic, why haven't you invested in a Chilton's? ;D

Hey Wolfie I do have all the books. They do not always explain everything.  There is no voltage coming from the switch. I know where the switch is and tested it. I cannot get it off. I have put the car on stands and spent the day trying to get it off. It is in a tight spot. The slave cylinder for the clutch is also in that area. I thought there might be someone on here that has been under one.

Solo it was really tight fit. There has to be a trick to it.  I was on my back chest hitting bottom of car.  Had lube on my hand and arm and still no luck.

Here ya go,... Might give you some info.  Looks as though a special offset type of wrench, might be needed to get into that tight area:

The switch looks very similar to the one I changed years ago. Kind of like a small spark plug.
