by 6lbs, 4 legs, and a long tail ;D
We've been in negotiations with a breeder and this morning we found out that she accepted our offer. Our new baby is a 1yr old hairless Chinese Crested. She's red with stark white hair on her head and the tip of her tail. The rest of her body is totally nekked.
As of yet, she has no name. Hubby gave me complete naming rights. I have a list but won't make a final decision until after we meet her. Hubby and I will make the 12hr round trip to pick her up on the 25th (2 wks from tomorrow).
Here's my short-list of names: Norma Jean, Edna, Rosie, Priscilla, Anna Sophia Rose (call her Sophie), Mavis, and Lucille (NOT Lucy).
We were emailed 2 short videos, but I don't have any pictures. I'll post some as soon as we get her.
The kids are over the moon. Gonna be a very long 2wks.

What the heck is a hairless Chinese Crested? I'm going to be stubborn this time. I'm not going to goggle this. I'll just wait for the pictures.
Congratulation, I guess. I'm going to wait for the rest of the story before I say anything else.

What wonderful news. Having always had pets, especially dogs, you are in for the real joy of sharing your life with a dog. If you have never had a dog, I would caution you against ever hitting or screaming at it, as it can damage a young dog for a life time. I know, I adopt shelter dogs and all you will ever need to do, to get them to walk on glass for you, is to treat them with kindness and speak to them softly.
-
Joe, I grew up with dogs in the house, Hubby didn't. He "inherited" a dog (part chow / part lab - 110lbs) when we got married. She died when Mim was a baby. I always said I'd NEVER have a dog until all the kids were potty trained. Well, our youngest is 5 1/2 and still not potty trained, but we're getting a dog anyway. We thought about adopting a dog from a shelter, but our youngest has horrific allergies that causes her skin to literally peel off :-\ We had to go with a dog that never sheds, doesn't have dander, is small, and good with kids. And, since she's 14mths old and house trained, I don't have to worry about 2 critters peeing on the couch ;)
Robert, it's a wee little dog that has no hair. Think Twiggy with 4 legs.
We call her our nekked ball of pure energy ;D

congrats on the new addition!
have to admit i'd also never heard of the breed and initially thought you were talking about a bird... although "hairless" seemed odd.
like killfoile i grew up with dogs and now share my home with 3 -- gracie and teddy were on the streets and boo was a "foster" puppy i was hosting until she completed treatment for sarcoptic mange. after 5 years "foster" no longer applies. i promised myself not to adopt any more but that doesn't fool me for a nanosecond -- it takes only a millisecond to fall in love and since most of mine have been from the streets i could not take any animal to the SPCA.
once more, congratulations!

Congrats. I bet Mini will be super excited.
Here's a picture of a hairless Chinese Crested dog. Maybe odd looking, but I like them as I do with most dogs :)
I am also very partial towards adopting shelter dogs. Mutts have always been my best friends. I'd post a pic of my Jake, but that might be hijacking of your thread.

Hi Mum,
I had a dream where I was married to my BF and we had our first child. Our son was a Cocker Spaniel, we named Little Milton, because he was a grandchild of the drug company GlaxoSmithKline.
Little Milton entered and won First Place in the International Haiku Contest with his entry
"Do not Tell Me
I am responsible for your throw up". The drug reps of the world, GUSHED.
In real life... I am getting my next baby dog at www.rocketdogrescue.org (http://www.rocketdogrescue.org). Rocket Dog has found homes for abused, abandoned, and shelter dogs for about 6 years through fund raising and volunteer efforts, a little over 1900 pets have been saved. ;D Have the best day

Oh, yeah!, moon, that's our baby! Except our baby has red skin instead of gray. And, our dog is a she-dog, so she doesn't have a winky. And, she has more hair on her head - think pig tails.
The one we were looking at before her was easily the butt-ugliest dog I've ever seen in my life - and I fell totally head over heels in love with him at first sight. ;D He was a hairless crested who was pink (think pepto pink) with black spots and stark white hair on her head and tail. To quote our middle son, "He (was) very beautiful for something so ugly." Our oldest was mortified at the thought THAT might be his dog.
Our baby is beautifical and looks like a 4-legged candy cane on speed. I'm crocheting her a gold fall sweater so she won't get cold.
We added a couple more names to our list: Eunice, Delilah, Valentina, Jane, and Flo. Anyone have any suggestions for names, feel free to add them. We won't make our final announcement until after we get her home and introduce her to the kids. Knowing us, she'll have a long string of names (like our kids).
Mum (who welcomes pictures of your babies)

Sounds great. And you are so right, the waiting time is going to be intense.
Happy times ahead.

Good luck !
sounds like a nice dawg !
I would never want a dog with a winky :o
I hope Mini LOVES it !
Big slobber , Carl .......................... LOL

Candy!
-
They kind of remind me of Gizmo, but he was a male, wasn't he? C.C. short for candy cane. If she had any black in her hair, you could of used Cruella.
You are going to have fun making little coats for her. They have the cutest little beds for small dogs too.
I am so happy for you guys, she is going to be a lot of fun!

Is she fixed? If not, "Flo" might be appropriate. You could crochet some little knickers for her.
-
She's not fixed yet, but she will be the end of October. The breeder said she's in heat now and will be done when we pick her up (thank goodness!!). Our vet said it will be 4-6mths before she goes into heat again. We'd like to have her for a bit before she goes under the knife. Actually, Hubby is going to scrub in and "help" :o Our vet is my best friend and said we could scrub in if we wanted to. I'll just stay home and wait for them to come home.
She's just such a sweet baby - can't wait to get her home.

Hey Mum,
You had me going for a moment there. I thought maybe you and the Mr. had an "adventure" in Boston! ;)
Congratulations on the dog. At least it won't shed.
HUGSl,
Mark.
-
Congratulations honey! They are such cute dogs.
I'd name her "Grace Slick"
:D
-
Grats on the pup, Mum....I like the name Valentina that you mentioned.
-
:D..Congratulations on your latest addition...they are a very stange looking dog..but so adorable.
Hugs to you all
Jan :-*
-
Hehe, Mark. We had lots of "adventures" - just didn't bring home any souvenirs ;)
Jan, very odd looking dog. Hairless is actually the dominant gene. It's rare to have one with hair on it. My parents have a powder puff crested named Ginger. She looks like a 13lb afghan - TONS of hair. Our kids love her to death. She doesn't shed, either, but is a pain to groom with brushings several times a day. She's the reason we fell in love with the breed. They are just sweet dogs who don't know a stranger.
11 days and counting....

Here's some concise information about the breed: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/chinesecrested.htm
I dont' know how to make it a link, but I assume you can just type it in or cut and paste it in the right place and get there. Don't ask me, I'm just the I.T. Guy's wife ;)
Mum
edited because I guess somehow the address is now a link? Like I said...Don't ask me.

looking for a name? how about Emily? ;)

I have tried and tried to post pictures of our new baby, but the files, even posting them one at a time, are too big. I have no idea how to reduce them so I can get them on here. I'll see what Hubby can do when he wakes up. She is a doll baby and has adapted well. She had one accident Saturday night, 1 Sunday morning, and none since then. At the breeders, there's a doggy door where she can come and go as she pleases. She's learned that she needs to tell us when she has to go.
She's a bit bigger than we thought - about 8lbs (fully grown). She just came out of heat and is scheduled for surgery the end of October (with Hubby scrubbing in). She is a cuddler and likes barking at the wild animals (4-legged and 2-legged). So far, the kids are doing great with her. They walk her, play with her outside (for HOURS - literally), and even gave her bath after she rolled around in the mud.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you her name. Originally, it was (deep breath): Dutchess Von Edna Lucille Penelope Rose. We were going to call her Edna. But, then, Hubby liked Shirley U. Jest, calling her Shirley. Then, after walking her at a rest area and having people ask us "what kind of dog is that?", we thought about naming her Manna (means "what is it?") from Heaven, calling her Manna. But, while driving past the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, I found the perfect name. So, her name is: The Contessa Ava Camille Rose. We call her Ava.
As soon as Hubby figures out how, I'll post some pictures of her.

LMAO, Shirley U Jest, was cute! Ava sounds perfect for her though.
If my files are too big, I upload them to photobucket, resize and save them and then I can usually post them.
-
Man I was all ready to view some pics! Can't wait to see the new addition.
-
Is there any way that I can email pictures to someone and then they can post them here? I have no idea how to resize them - even on photobucket (not even sure what that is :-\)

I will PM you my email address :)

Mum
send as many as you want to me and i'll resize them --treborino@gmx.com. i can post them here as attachments or post them on a web site if it's easier for readers to view them that way. feel free to specify names, dates, whatever for each pic & i'll post that along with the pics.
i don't use photobucket or blowfish or whatever those sites are either so if anyone wants 8X10 glossies they'll have to deal with you!

Mum's new family member pics are up! :)

She looks like Britany Spears... only a lot better and I am sure with a lot more talent also.
Cute dog.

There's my baby girl! Thank you so much, Camms, for posting her for me. :-*

edited to add: in the picture of Ava looking at herself in the mirror, you can see the hardwood floors Hubby and I put down in our bedroom.

Wow, mum, simply adorable.

That is a rather fab looking dog, I must say.

It looks to be like she has quite a bit of hair. Along with that 'crested' look and those ears, it looks like she's ready to fly away any minute now.
(and I love the floors. That's just not another Pergo floor, is it? you and Hubby did good.)
-
Edna.... what a fabulous name.
LaFaunduh, Bella and Paco say hi.
-
Mum, she is too cute... love that pic of her looking in the mirror. Thank you Camille for helping us see this baby.
-
So cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Robert, no it's not a Pergo floor. It's a hand-scraped wood floor from a company called Virginia Mills. It was quite a boogaboo to put down, but I love it. We also pulled up all the floor and door triim and replaced it with natural-stained pecan. Eventually the whole house will have the same flooring. It's helped quite a bit with my allergies.
Ava has hair, but it doesn't grow on her body - just her feet (called "booties"), head, and tail. Her face and spine have a bit of "stubble", but I just take out the Bic razor when I bathe her and run it down her spine. I'll have to take her to the groomers for her face and to trim up her her crest - it's a bit long down her back. I'll let her ears and bangs grow more. Standard look is having the bangs down to the snout and the ears super long. Her skin is totally smooth and feels rather odd. Have to be careful in the sun - she can burn.
Philly, thanks!

Ava is officially in potty bootcamp. She hasn't peed in the house, but has decided that pooping in the house is an OK thing to do. She'll go out 1st thing in the morning and pee, then come straight in and poop in the boys' room. >:( Until she learns better, when we take her out in the morning if she doesn't pee and poop, then she goes in her "cage" for 2 hours, then we try again. If she poops, she gets to stay out. If not, she goes back in for another 2 hours. When she begins pooping consistently outside first thing in the morning, she'll graduate. Until then, just call her Private Ava.
Oddly enough, she doesn't fuss or cry when we put her in her "cage". Her bed and toys are in there and it's where we put her at night and when we leave the house. Our vet said it's not about punishment, it's about putting her somewhere she WON'T poop until she learns where she can. She's also not allowed to go outside and play until she learns that outside is for pottying. Once she gets that, she gets back the privelage of running around outside.
Wed. we're off to the vet for her first official check-up and shots.
