Fall has Fallen, sigh....
« on: October 07, 2007, 03:37:22 pm »
I could see it coming.. But waking up to 30 degrees from yesterdays 50's, I could definately feel it...  I would never give up the 4 seasons we have here, but I would sure like the big W a bit shorter these days.  I love the colors that fall brings...  But I must say, as you get older, the winter is not as appealing as it once was...  Give it a month, I am ready for summer again.    ;)

Time to dig out the winter equipment again.....

Oh, for a beach right about now..

The first days of Fall were obvious here on the Russian River yesterday.  I chopped some firewood and put the top up on both cars.  As I was chopping wood, I thought about Loretta Lynn and kept singing to myself... "Your're lookin at me, your're looking at country".  And of course, Carlene Carter with her Playboy quote of the year, when she didn't know her mother was in the audience...   What was that famous quote of the year?  Glad you asked... She said, "If this don't put the cunt back into country, nothin will."

Gosh, Eric, how time flies! Why, it seems that it was only a few short months ago that snow was falling....OH, WAIT, IT WAS!! June wasn't it?

You'd have to pay me good to get me to live in a place where the cold comes so easily and stays so bloody long...

Stay warm!

Boat ride Michael,

Hey Eric,

This is the time of the year I miss housing units from my past life.  I don't remember actually seeing snow in person (TV, Movies, ads in magazines but not up close and personal).  Soon, I will be missing the house in Waikiki that had no heater and never needed one or the house in L.A. that had a gas feed to the fireplace.  Turn on the gas jet, throw a switch and viola! (a warm and toasty fire).  In my wildest dreams (sustiva based), we could have an AMG in Aspen or Jackson Hole so I could learn to ski and miss all of the trees.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  Have the best day

Hey Eric:

It's getting to be fall here also, however by today's temps you wouldn't be able to tell that.  It was like 87 today and humid as hell!  Here in northern Indiana!  How bizarre.  But the temps are supposed to break Tuesday.  Some of the trees are turning already and they look beautiful.  I love the cooler weather.  Of course, if I had someone to snuggle with, it would be so much better! ;)

Eric, it was 90 here today and no breeze and it's going to be in the mid 90s tomorrow. This is unseasonally warm for us.

Hey Eric,

It was 26 degrees F here this morning, then the temp rose to about 65 by late this afternoon.

So, yep, its fall.

No snow. No rain. Just cold nights and warm days. Well, 26 isn't too cold, but it is a bit chilly. The animals are behaving strangely though.

The vultures haven't migrated yet. but I think the bats have. The deer, on the other hand, are already coming down into the yard at night to feed on the leftovers of my garden.

One friend said his brother has had a black bear bothing him and his family lately, probably trying to fatten up for hibernation.

My furnace is on and I have to winterize my pellet stove and seal it again to prevent any carbon monoxide accidents like I experienced last winter.

I still haven't bought one of those detectors, I guess I had better get off my butt and do that too.

Hang in there Eric. Something tells me its going to be an interesting winter.

HUGS,

Mark

Rod I think we hit the 90's a few times this summer...  Zero hunidity makes it pretty tollerable..  I am not sure if the body would like a consequetive 90 degree mark for any length of time anymore... What is one to do?  A happy medium up here is just not in the cards at least for another 20 years so I am told...

Mike, I will fedEx you some white stuff if you want....  ;)

Mark, the furnace has been going for a month now...  ;)  When I drive home at night, I just presume I am going to hit a deer 70% chance...  Survival of the fittest?  Naw, they are just stupid and never learn and there is a bazillion of em between work and home...  The bears are sleeping now I think...  Mark come by and we can roast some marshmellows!  I am a good smore maker..  But thats about it..... ;)

I don't think so Eric.  I'll take the aspen changing any time.  I love the fall so much.  Maybe if I moved back it would be a different story.  LIving in California it's easy for me to say how lucky you and Mark are.  Our lows are 46' and later this winter it might get 10' cooler.  We might have a couple of days of 32' but that's it.  but boy do I miss the crisp, fall mornings. Wearing sweaters  in the afternoon sun.  The sun setting behind the mountains and the temperature dropping 20' and you still need to walk the dog.  A nice bowl of homemade chili to warm you up.

You and Will. You're so lucky!

I'm with Mouse in that Fall is my favorite season; I love layering the clothes and love it when I'm walking fast and my overcoat is flowing behind me and one of the VPs at the hospital said she thought Dracula was coming at her LOL

I don't really enjoy the hot humid weather of high summer in Texas ("Sack-Sticking Weather," we call it) but I'm not fond of extreme cold either.   Layering took so much more effort when Abbey and I went to NYC in January but at least I had a warm bed to look forward to each night (and you know who you are ;) )

Summer here in Michigan is refusing to give up...90 and humid yesterday, more of the same for today. Then the bottom falls out later this week with highs in the mid 50's  :-\  Time to make a big pot of chili  ;D
I really like Fall, I just hope it doesn't pass us up and go right in to Winter, this has happened before  :-\

I wish we could get a touch of fall ,here in the wonderful state of Florida, but it ain't happenning yet ! IN fact, I'd seen the love bugs out the other day. That's kind of rare for this time of year. I don't ever remember seeing the love bugs in October before, in my 27 years in Florida. HHmmmmm....

I love fall, but not so much winter. The leaves haven't started to change around here, yet. Hopefully in a few weeks. I took this photo yesterday at Sycamore Lake ( near Shilo Battlefield). Now that I have all this free time I have decided to go to various state parks near Jackson and take some photos. When the leaves change I am taking a drive down the Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville to Tupelo, Ms. then back up to Jackson. http://www.nps.gov/natr/

sigh, indeed.

Thankfully, winter is behind me and we are well and truly into spring which officially started on 1 September. Just this last week we've finally had some warm weather, 34 C, which I guess is in the mid-90's, and the humidity is starting to build slowly.

I just wish we'd hurry up and start daylight saving. It's starting to get light around 5.30 am at the moment, and I have this habit of waking at first light. 5.30 is too early to be up and about for my liking.

It's currently 91° here.  I don't generally even consider fall 'til early November or late October at the earliest.  I despise the heat and humidity, but I don't like being cold either.  Give me spring and fall anyday!

Fall is my favorite season here in Maryland, but its been unseasonably warm here lately!  It has been close to 90F for a few days.  Supposed to be 82F tomorrow and then highs in the upper 60s low 70s for the next week.

Well, I have lived here on the Russian River for 3 years now and one thing that always happens-  When the last convertible top is raised, it rains.  That happened this morning when Marie raised the roof on her Mercy.  It is raining now.

Something else about river living... When ABC, NBC, and CBS send news crews, there is always a flood.  Then once each year during the summer a fleet of black limosines drive through town (escorted) and they run both stop lights.  If that isn't stranger than fiction... There is the same parade twice each year with the same people and the same floats!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Have the best day
