My VL hasn't come in yet (takes a month) but my CD4 were 427 which makes me happy. I havent started treatment yet :-D


On the down side the Doctor said I have a rash related to the varicella virus (im not sure if its the same thing as shingles) at first i thought it was genital herpes but the doctor said it wasnt herpes simplex (he kind of confused me but whatever)....it stings like a bitch though

Your CD4s are looking pretty good. I hope the viral load holds true to form as well.

EEP! Shingles are a pain. No two ways around it.

I hope they clear up very soon for you.

Ouch !! It does sound like it could be shingles. Did the doctor prescribe you Acyclovir or Valtrex, to help minmize the rash ?

Current Meds ; Viramune / Epzicom Eliquis, Diltiazem. Pravastatin 80mg, Ezetimibe. UPDATED 2/18/24
 Tested positive in 1985,.. In October of 2003, My t-cell count was 16, Viral load was over 500,000, Percentage at that time was 5%. I started on  HAART on October 24th, 2003.

 UPDATED: As of April, 2nd 2024,Viral load Undetectable.
CD 4 @593 /  CD4 % @ 18 %

Lymphocytes,total-3305 (within range)

cd4/cd8 ratio -0.31

cd8 %-57

72 YEARS YOUNG

yea he gave me valtrex 1mg valtrex for 10 days....

I havent started it yet because i went out with my sister last night and its in my car (i should get my lazy ass up and get it)....

I thought shingles was considered an OI...isn't it strange to have shingles with a high CD4+?

No, not necessarily. I have known peoplel who developed them even though their CD4s were in the relatively safe zone, like more than 300 or 400.

Take your Valtrex. You will be glad you did.

Shingles is a reactivation of the same virus causes chickenpox. The chickenpox virus (varicella) remains in a dormant state in the body in the root of nerves that control sensation. In about 1 out of 5 people, the virus "wakes up," often many years after the chickenpox infection. The virus then travels along a sensory nerve into the skin causing a painful rash known as shingles.
Anyone who has had the chickenpox infection or vaccine can get the herpes zoster virus that causes shingles and the majority of people with shingles are healthy.   It is just a pain (literally).

Non pozzies can get shingles too.  It has nothing to do with HIV.
