Laptop users...track point or touch pad?
« on: September 17, 2006, 07:35:48 am »

I purchased a new laptop and the only ones that had available are ones with the touch pads.  I hate these touch pads.  I can't control the mouse.  It's not very precise.  It's below the keys so you have to stop typing completely to move the mouse.  It jumps on the screen.  You have to touch the pad a lot just to move the mouse to the other side of the screen.  It just plain sucks!  I miss the trackpoints, (red dot in the pic above), on the IBMs.

I hope I learn to love it, cause right now it's making me want to take this thing back and go find me an IBM.   ???

The IBM's have gotten very slim and lightweight.  Of all the laptops we received at work, IBMs were by far the most popular because of the lightweight, trackpoint and realiability.  I don't know what will happen to them now that they are Lenovo.

My daughter has an Apple, the touch pad does take some getting used to.

I love my laptop when I travel, but when I'm home, it's firmly planted on my desk with a standard keyboard and mouse attached.  I hate the damn touch pad!

(I didn't vote, because I have no idea what a "track point" is...)

Wireless mouse if I've got the surface.  I got one from Microsoft where the little plug snaps into the underside of the mouse when not in use, cutting off the power supply and making the AA battery last a long time.  I'm on my second battery since May.

I agree with the wireless mouse, I use the area to the right of the touchpad for it. It works great but keep batteries on hand. I seem to change them out once a month. Maybe I am doing sometihng wrong.

Touchpads are great. They're so much quicker than a mouse.

Maybe just cause I'm so used to them.

But seriously, they're so easy to control after you use one for like... a week.

I find the trackpoint to be easier to use. Touch pads seem less precise and I have to take my hand off the keyboard.
