Unable to loose weight
« on: June 20, 2009, 05:15:44 am »
Ok I don't even know if this related with my HIV or not , but since February I've changed my diet and been exercising 3 times a week at the gym in the first month i lost 3 KG but since then it has stayed exactly the same 79 kg at a height of 162 or 5'3 on 3 days i practically ate nothing no change whatsoever

i asked my doc he seemed to think my body used everything it got, i think it could be something else, he has agreed to check my thyroid with my next bloods at the beginning of september

my last results were Virusload  under 40 undetectable, CD4 586 , meds Truvada and Viramune and Pravastatin for cholesterol

what do you think ?

talk to a dietitian or a trainer for additional  information. my weight fluctuates about 6-8 lbs throughout the year. i have not encountered any problems either gaining weight or losing weight.

to lose weight i modify my diet (less calories) and increase my cardio. i tend to do more repetitions and less weight when lifting. i also make sure that i do not starve and keep plenty of healthy low fat snacks around.

good look with this. i hope you find the answer you are looking for.

I totally agree with D (Next) about talking to a dietician and trainer.  A good dietician can work with you to get you on a low-calorie diet that will work with your body, and a trainer can work with you on an exercise routine specifically for your body type to help you lose weight.

Good luck.

uggh, that sucks. looks like you are gonna have to make some more changes. unfortunately, being poz can complicate things.

have your trainer spruce up your work out routine if possible. your body will plateau from a monotonous routine. if possible, you can introduce fat burners into your diet. there are natural substances and foods that increase metabolism. there is also crack in a can (ripped fuel and other energy drinks) that has done wonders for some people.

i don't know if you are concerned about lipo, but increased cardio and weight loss can affect some pozers in a negative way. this is why i suggested the dietitian and trainer earlier.

when i gained my 30 lbs (and the last 8lbs) i used a supplement from my gym. i followed the instructions from my trainer and spruced up my routine every few months. sorry i don't have anything more specific, but if i come across more info i'll be sure to share it with you.

don't give up! i'm sure an answer is just around the corner : )

You are at a Plateau. You need to change your exercise routine and eat 6-8 very small meals a day. Plateaus are common if you maintain the same routine. Your body goes into starvation mode meaning it discontinues replacing many body cells.

You need to lift weights  3-4 times a week and cardio 4-3 times a week and you need to mix this up a bit. Plateaus are caused by your body adapting to your routine. The only way to blast through a Plateau is to change how and when you exercise and when and what you eat.

Unfortunately, most modern day trainers don't know much about the science of body building. They attend a few of classes sponsored by a gym and wow they are now trainers.

You need to educate your self. The best book I have every read for beginners is "The Body Sculpting Bible for Men" by Hugo Rivera.

Also you need to eat to gain muscle. Eat fish, chicken and Turkeyand lots of fruit and vegetables.

Keep your can goods (ie: soups)  in the refrigerator upside down. This will allow fat to collect at the bottome of the can so when you  open it, you can pour out a nearly fat free product. But leave the fat in the can when pouring.

Everyone is giving you great advice, but I would NOT make any major changes until you have your doctor check things out and make sure that there isn't something else going on.  Sort of like the thyroid test you have coming.

At the end of the day there is no science to losing weight -- you do not need fancy supplements or expensive trainers (although a dietician might make sense).  What you do need is to consume less calories than you burn each day.  Starvation diets won't work though, because your body is smarter than that and will go into "starvation mode" -- slower, steady weight loss is the ideal.

good luck,

Mike
