Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Hi there, i am a straight guy and seven years ago i spent a night with a sex change prostitute in Bangkok. This was totally unlike me and i'd had far too much to drink. Back at my hotel i recieved oral sex for quite some time and i eventually agreed to anal sex... This lasted no longer than 10 seconds as i didnt like it at all. The problem is that im not 100 % that protection was used aithough im not stupid and cant see myself doing that without a condom. The prostitute seemed very aware of hiv and showed me a test card. I have been tested last week and as myself and my partner are going through IVF treatement and it is routine to be tested. I am just beside myself with worry about the results.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

The bottom line here is if you've had unprotected intercourse with ANYONE, then you need to test. Testing is the ONLY way to determine your hiv status. You need to test three months after your last incident of unprotected intercourse for a conclusive result.

OK, thanks for that. Would i expect to see any deterioration in my health or imune system over the last seven years if i was infected? I have had no problems at all but still im very worried....

Hiv simply cannot be diagnosed by either the presence or absence of symptoms. Some people remain quite healthy for years, some people become sick within a year or two. This is why the ONLY way to know your hiv status is to test.
