Baby, its cold outside!
« on: November 30, 2006, 08:32:32 am »
The past few days have proved winter is here - with a vengeance.

Yesterday I had to travel to Gallup, about 180 miles south-south-west of where I live. It started spitting snow Tuesday, then the wind came up. By Wednesday morning, it was a blizzard. Interstate 40 was closed between Gallup and Flagstaff, Arizona.

Cars were sliding all over the place. The truckers were worse. Why do those driving 18-wheelers think they can carry on as if nothing were going on? Last I heard, more than a dozen had jack knifed.

I drove home in it yesterday, but when I got about 70 miles from home, things cleared up. Good news because I had had enough of snowpacked, ice-glazed roads.

This morning, its cold. At the moment it is 4 degrees Fahrenheit outside. It is a nice toasty 61 degrees inside, but I don't look forward to heading to the office this morning.

IT could be worse, Gallup, according to the weatherman, is 9 degrees below zero at the moment.

Time to find those woolen socks.

HUGS and SHIVERS,

Mark

Mark, it was so warm here the other day I washed all the windows on the outside of the house. I had to put on my cut-offs I was sweating so much.

We did have a little frost in the morning. But that goes as soon as the sun rises.

Are you sorry that you moved from sunny California yet?  I know. I’m mean old bastard.  ;D

It's 66 F here.  I've barely turned my heating on yet this year.

It has been unseasonably warm here in Milwaukee - - until today.  Someone must have forgotten to pay the heat bill.  It was barely over 20.  Supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow.  They are saying over a foot in Chicago starting tonight.

1st day of summer here.
Was 40 C in the burbs (i think that's about 107 farenheit). Thankfully, the sea breeze kept it to about 95 in the city. However, the air is thick and choking with bushfire smoke, the smell of eucalyptus oil and burnt gum trees. Ick.

And mossies, bloody mossies. They are eating me alive as type.

Well, its a little warmer today. It only got down to 7 Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, with the wind chill, it is 5 below zero F.

No snow, just cold.

Some dummy, who shall remain nameless, left the hose attached to the spigot outside. It froze and, sometime yesterday, thawed enough to begin shooting water across my driveway.

Luckily, an astute neighbor saw it, called the city and they shut off my water. I am now waiting for them to come back out and turn it on again, as I don't have a key.

Oh well, life it the big city of Aztec. I am hoping the temps will get back up into the 40s soon, but I might have to wait until April.

SHIVERS,

Mark

As I said in a PM to Ann earlier today, the temperature in New Orleans dove into the teeth-chattering 40s yesterday so the little gas heater in my bedroom is spewing carbon monoxide and heat, roughly in that order.  The cats and dogs have a stiff competition going to see who can get closest to the heater without bursting into flames.  So far the cats are winning.

I hate winter!!
