2 Year Anniversary
« on: September 13, 2010, 08:56:36 pm »
Happy 2 year anniversary to me.... Happy 2 year anniversary to me...

Two years ago today I got my HIV driver's license - found out I was positive.

Two years has flown by.

I'm grateful to be healthy (other then some of the little nuances that go with being positive and being on meds)
Numbers are good - see my ID doc next week for my latest labs.

Very grateful for the friends I have made on these Forums.

On the count of three join me....
1...2....3
Happy anniversary to me.... Happy anniversary to me..... 8)

Yes, it does feel strange to congratulate you on being poz.  However, congrats on coming to terms with being poz (the best ya can) and being in good health.  My 2 years will be this Dec that I was diagnosed, but I just had my 9 year anniversary of being unlucky.  In my profile, I say possibly 1995 cause my former partner is poz, but I'm pretty sure I got it from someone else in 2001.

I've been poz a little over 2-years now too.  As with everyone we have our good days and our bad days but overall things have been great.

As I've mentioned in my 2 other posts in the forums recently I've been lurking here since my first poz test result but just started posting.

I have a great Dr and also a great life partner that has helped me through all this.  My Dr is from the "school" of hit it early and hit it hard as long as you can stay adherent to the regimen and I'm glad I've listened to him.  I quickly went to undetectable within 2 months of starting meds and my CD4 levels have been climbing as well as my %.

I passed my first anniversary in April and wondered at the time if it was appropriate to celebrate. I guess it is how you make out the invitations to the party.  If it's celebrating being HIV+, then we need to reexamine some things. If it's to celebrate life, then party on!

Here's hoping we all have many more anniversaries to celebrate.

My two years was this past May. I too have a DOc that believes in hit early, hit hard. Started with a CD4 of 511..It is now consistently in the high 700's.
Forum participants should view these posts, especially newbies. It takes some of the fear away. Most people are doing well on ARV's.
I've been extremely lucky. No side effects, healthier than ever.

Love the kangaroo Matty -- makes me feel like I'm in Australia for my anniversary - and since I didn't have tickets to Oprah's show yesterday - the kangaroo picture is about as close as I can get to Australia for right now --- Although, I wouldn't mind being there for a little excursion on my 4 or 5 year anniversary!

Come on Matty, that Roo looks anything but festive. He looks to be in his 70's, possibly has mange, and looks as though he just got through throwing up behind that bush. Certainly you can do better than to send a sickly roo to Phil on his "Aidsday".

Way to go, Phil. Here's to many more happy, healthy years ahead of you.

The day will come when your D-Day (diagnosis day) anniversary will come and go without you even noticing it. That happened to me two or three years in a row now. It was days later when I realised. My D-Day is February 22, 2001.

Phil, congratulations on your second year anniversary of choosing to thrive with HIV. IMHO a happy anniversary denotes a joyous occasion and becoming poz is not one of those occasions. However, how you decide to react to becoming poz and when you apply yourself to adapting and eventually thriving, well that is something to celebrate. Here's to many, many, more.

Thanks Everyone for the "congrats" and positive thoughts -

I agree that it seems a little odd - to say the least - to reference the anniversary date of my diagnosis as a "Happy Anniversary."

I guess I mean that more to reflect a sense of gratitude at being alive - at having access to med - at having found these Forums and many of the great people on here that I call friends - this is what makes it a "Happy Anniversary" as opposed to a "Oh Shit, 2 years ago I got that f'ed up news"

I agree Ann, that soon I will probably forget the actual date - I actually remembered it a couple days ago (that it was coming up) but then forgot about it until last night when I posted.

I guess that is why I keep it on my signature line - to help me to remember.  The fading memory has more to do with age and the desire to keep life a little simpler then with the HIV.....

Thanks again everyone --
I'm still wondering if the kangaroo pic Matty sent was taken in his backyard?? ;D

That kangaroo in Matty's post is his Aunty Kanga. The family resemblance is uncanny.

Phil, while I don't think I'll ever forget the date, it still manages to pass me by. I'm strange like that sometimes, must be my unique genetic disposition. ;)

Since he stands about 6 foot tall, you wouldn't say that to his noble face.

And given this is an AIDS birfday we're celebrating, he's festive enuff. :)

He's the perfect height for me -
I think I shall name him "Kangol"
Do you think they would allow you to ship him over to the States for me? ::)

I was so tired and exhausted when they told me, I have no idea what the date was, only the month.

That is understandable.  However, I have been on the personals site here at poz.  I've noticed several people state they "don't know when they were diagnosed" under how long you've been poz.  I could understand not knowing when they were infected, but zero idea when dx?  Not a year even?  I've wondered whether those people just ran through and didn't fill it out (although they had to choose that option).  Or, whether they are bug chasers and don't want to lie and say they have it when they don't.  Strange.  Maybe they confused the option of "don't know when I was diagnosed" as how long they've been infected.

Best to you, Philomena.  Celebrate it this weekend by having piggy sex, without disclosure, with a straight guy (whom you picked at either the local bookstore or your favorite vitamin shoppe).

Hugs from your bitchy lil' Miami sista.

He strikes me as more of a Percy, but it's your AIDS birfday.

Not in that form. Perhaps carefully filleted into choice cuts would be an option.
