Zodiac Nightmares Thirty Odd Years Later
« on: February 25, 2007, 02:11:36 pm »
I remember like it was yesterday. A skinny high school kid gets up late on a Saturday pours a bowl of Frosted Flakes and notices a classmates picture on the front page of the Vallejo CA Times. The classmates name is Betty Lou Jensen...not just a classmate but a friend. Closer inspection reveals that Betty Lou along with her friend, David Faraday had become first victims of the notorious Zodiac Killer. A killing so shocking at the time that it paralyzed the area with fear for the next decade or so. The Zodiac Killer became the stuff of serial killer lore. In fact, a movie about the Zodiac opens this Friday.

Watching the tube last night I channel surfed past A'sMW which was doing an in depth tie-in to the movie...John Walsh was all over it. People and places I have not thought of in thirty years jumped out at me from the screen. I knew every detail they were talking about...the repressed memories of fear poured from my subconscious. During the special they provide a website with all the history and information available about the Zodiac Killer's case. I hope this link works http://www.zodiackiller.com/

This morning I decide to check out the ZodiacKiller site. I enter and click on victims...interested to see what they have to say about BettyLou. It opens up a page with a police report, crime scene photos etc. I continue reading and a link is supplied to what the community thought. I click on the link and to my amazement a newspaper pic of me and some classmates collecting money for a reward fund pops up. Can't remember anything about the photo or the people in the photo. It just feels weird.

That Allen guy sure seemed like a strong suspect.  I don't think they will ever solve this one.

I know what you mean about the fear coming back. I went thru that when the BTK serial killer resurfaced a couple of years ago. He started killing in 1974 and I remember all too well the fear of living thru that. It had been over 20 yrs since he communicated with the media. What was odd was my daughter had been asking me questions about BTK. What I did different, how scared people were, and then a couple of months after that he resurfaced.  Thank heavens the cops caught him and he is now in prison.

Even as a goofy sixteen year old I can remember thinking things have changed. It had...our innocence was shattered. I had never carried a house key up till that point. Never needed to, the front door was never locked...that night my dad produced three front door keys for me and my sisters. The front door was never left unlocked again.

To this day I will not go into a dark house. I always leave a light on. For the longest time the first thing I did when I walked in the door was run to the phone and make sure there was a dial tone. He always cut the phone lines. It does affect you in ways some people cant imagine.

$100 says he's dead.  Only way those guys stop.  Prison is likely but then he most likely would have restarted his reign of terror to grasp that feeling of control again. So it would have to be prison for life.  Or a VERY long sentence.  Figure he was 30-40 when he went in.

But my money is he died.  One way or another.
LIFE is not a race to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty and well-preserved body, but, rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming--WOW! WHAT A
RIDE!!!
