My initial results
« on: March 04, 2013, 11:43:59 am »
Hey guys,

I tested poz a few weeks ago with my doctor and have just recently gotten my CD4 and VL numbers. Which are 430 CD4 and 90550 VL. My specialist says I am fine, she prescribed me Stribild (1 a day) and said that my CD4 should be back to normal within a year and my VL will most likely be under 20 when in a few months.

I followed up with my regular physician and he also told me I am fine but did make a comment that my VL is pretty high and should start taking meds asap (I'm just waiting for my insurance to kick in).

Can I get an honest opinion from someone? Will I be fine? Obviously there's alot of fear with me. I am 25 years and perfectly healthy (and never get sick). I just recently gotten HPV in my anal area. My doc also said the hospital might not treat me until my VL gets lower.

I know I'm asking a lot but if someone would be kind enough to help a slightly damaged soul return back on track to the beautiful life I'd be very grateful  :)

My honest is opinion is you are going to better than just fine , I'm predicting you are going to live a long happy life . I was diagnosed with HIV at a younger age than you and I will soon be 51 . You have a lot of living to do so I suggest you plan for a bright future and it wouldn't hurt to open a retirement account if you haven't already done so .

I wish I had planned for retirement but 30 years ago it would have been considered a bad joke to suggest I would ever have need of one .

Wow that is amazing. I am glad to hear that you're still around and healthy for so long. Kudos to that. Your words really motivated me and I will look into that retirement account lol.

Slightly off-topic (well not really), since my HPV (Anal wartz) can't be treated right away because I need to me on meds, how likely and fast does HPV get to one day cause cancer... ? If anyone knows about the topic

Your doctor is correct , its best to let the meds do the work to get you undetectable and your viral load up so as to go into treatment for HPV with a strengthened immune system . You are not in immanent danger for HPV related cancer and your doctors are monitoring you for it anyway , patience is the key .

It's generally very slow.

I will also add that I had successful treatment for HPV about 15 years ago and I have abnormal paps but haven't progressed or had a reoccurrence of HPV lesions .

The key is regular checkups and a wait and see approach . Miss P can give you some good information on high resolution anascopy also if you ask him nice .

btw, I was treated for HPV including infrared coagulation for dysplasia/lesions and surgical removal of warts (after trying other methods unsuccessfully) when I had a viral load of ~40,000 and similar cd4 ~450 (not to mention 10-15 years ago) so I'm dubious of your doctor's statement. But my colorectal specialist primarily treated gay men so it's not like he'd never encountered that scenario.

I met with a specialist in this area recently who told me it usually takes years and years for hpv to get all cancerous so dont worry too much about that. i'm also on stribild so if you have any questions about that feel free to message me. welcome!

Thanks everyone for the loads of info. I got more than I asked for. You are truly amazing people let me tell you, have only encountered so much love and support here.

Can I asked, how painful is HPV surgery? And oh lord I hope they don't give me 5 shots in my behind again like last time I had an abscess that had to get drained.. lol.

Its completely a question of how invasive the surgery or treatment is as to the answer to your question .

I wont lie to you and say I didn't have discomfort but I can be honest in saying if I needed it I would do it again . Bottom line on your bottom is if you need treatment then you are going to have to do what you have to do . The pain meds worked very effectively  to help the discomfort I experienced .

That's true, I'll do it either way. I'm just curious how the procedure goes.

I'm just concerned because I did start to bleed a bit when going for number 2. It's not painful at all, just a bit tense, but no pain. And I tried to look at it (by doing selfpics) and one warts is very blue, almost black, I hope this is not a bad sign. My consultation is on March 20, so that's not even when the surgery will be.... I can definitely deal with this but I just need to know if it is OK to wait as I have no clue about it
