Not sure why you have taken such a nasty disposition toward me but it is duly noted. Glad you noticed my avatar because I do plan on getting out of this flea-ridden state just as soon as I can. Have a great day Willimeana.

Well being a fellow Texan, I have to agree with Willy.  I may not agree with everything here, but i can't imagine living anywhere else.  Job market is better here than most places, no state tax, cost of living is less.  The sexy cowboys themselves are a great benefit.  Never bogged down in 12 inches of snow. Plus i can hop on a plane here in dallas and be just about anywhere in the country within 2 to 4 hours.

She's upset because I won't hold her hands when we walk down the street. And if you don't believe me I'll be happy to cut/paste the text transcript.

No, what I said was ...that I like to hold hands, but you wont find me skipping down the street hand in hand with my boyfriend.

You really need to talk to your therapist about your inability to separate reality from fantasy.

It's sad that even the queers here believe Perry's own bullshit about Texas.

Rick Perry was a 'D-Average' student at Texas A&M who has never held a real job in his life with the exception of a four year stint in the Air Force. The people of this state have kept this idiot in state office, Texas legislature, Agriculture Commissioner, Lt. Governor and Governor (3 terms). It really doesn't speak well for the voters here because he is a gaffe-prone idiot who is killing medicaid.  The Los Angeles Times wrote that under Perry, "working Texans increasingly have been priced out of private healthcare while the state's safety net has withered."

There are a lot of good things about Texas but this state is all about 'small southern politics.' Texas is no better, politically, than Louisiana.

i have held the belief that "nationalism" thinking can blind people with false pride. It can be difficult for some to admit.
the same thinking goes on at the state level.

Really? Moving from one Republican stronghold to another is a good thing when you live with hiv and have a high dependency on affordable healthcare? I hope you've thought this move through.

Philadelphia has a better selection of cheese so naturally I advocate that choice. Plus it's four times the size of Dennis' shithole.

Also, one can travel to NYC on a train in an hour and only slightly longer to DC. One can survive here with no car.

I have family in Indiana and have spent considerable time in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne.  They're both great places.

I'm considering moving to Columbus, OH.  I think it's about time to live amongst the gays.  It's one of the most gay friendly cities in the US.  I can't find the study, but I know I read that somewhere.

Since I was preparing to die 25 years ago, why would I move to start a new temporary life?

I found this interesting, Columbus is underrated for its gayness.

I'm visiting my Aunt & Uncle for a few days before AMG this year.  She's watching after Miss Lily while I attend.  And Cleveland?  Way cooler city than many believe.  Bill and I spent many of weekends there.  We'd take the camper and stay in a campground that was real close to the nightlife action.  I still have my autographed Suzanne Westenhoefer Tshirt from when we saw her perform at a comedy club.

I won't tell the story of the one time he let me drive his conversion van pulling that damn camper.  I'll just say that I forgot it was back there. ;D

Enjoy that State Sales tax Droodles.

Texas state sales tax = 6.25%

Pennsylvania state sales tax = 6%

stfu

Also, as far as I know in terms of state income tax which you don't have, your property taxes are more onerous, so again stfu

Honestly the more important issue is if one performs job "X" are they paid more in Texas or in New York? I think we all know that particular answer.

Im talking to traitor Droodles not you. This has nothing to do with Shitsylvania.

Indiana State Sales tax- 7% +State Income Tax. I dont think Droodly owns a home. I could be wrong.
Texas - no state income tax.

so STFU

The New Mexico state gross receipts tax rate is currently 5.125%. Depending on local municipalities, the total tax rate can be as high as 8.625%.

as I live in the most populated county & city in the whole entire state
so 8.625% is what we pay here in ABQ-metro & Bernco county  :-[

yes in a nutshell

"education" is a broad term, can you be specific please. For instance Texas ranks 20th in Adults who attend at least some college. and 30th in Adults who attain Bachelors degrees.

Edited to add: hmmm Texas is 9th according to US Dept of Education rankings of graduation rates....which is well above Shitsylvania

Indiana is quite expensive to maintain and drive a vehicle.  Your vehicle registration cost is based on the year and value of your car.

My aunt and uncle once told me it cost them over $2,000/year just for vehicle registrations for them and my cousins.

Ohio has a marginal income tax rate of 5.92% and a 7% sales tax.

Willy Boy THIS IS FOR YOU  :-*

 "Texas, Our Texas"

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
(chorus)

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

Chorus

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

Graduation rates mean little when your standards for grading them are so abysmally low. That's why they end up at some crappy place like Texas State - San Marcos.

How are your teen pregnancy rates?

New Mexico and Texas were separate political divisions dating back to the Viceroyalty of New Spain. There was a smidgen of current day western areas of Texas that could be viewed as part of the of the province of Santa Fe de Nuevo México but that's it as borders were not surveyed by today's methods but left somewhat vague.

Seriously, how can you people live down there and not know this? Is our children learning?

Graduation rates mean little when your standards for grading them are so abysmally low. That's why they end up at some crappy place like Texas State - San Marcos.

How are your teen pregnancy rates?

Have you got a point to make or do you just like slapping links up on the forums?

That's rich coming from you Mary. You slap obscure links into any thread where you aren't getting enough attention. It has a valid point that you're more than welcome to shove up your boney ass.

It's an opinion article, which I did in fact skim -- I just don't understand why you quoted me and then made the link, so I asked. Alas you decided to resort to launch personal attacks.

o hai guys!

States with “High Rate” Income Taxes are Still Outperforming No-Tax States

• In reality, states that levy personal income taxes, including the states with the highest top rates, have seen more economic growth per capita and less decline in their median income level over the last ten years than the nine states that do not tax income.
Unemployment rates have been nearly identical across states with and without income taxes.

• Laffer’s claims to the contrary rely on cherry-picking a number of blunt, aggregate measures of economic growth that are closely related to population trends, and incorrectly asserting that tax policy is a leading force behind the migration trends that fuel this
growth. Laffer omits measures like median income growth and state unemployment rates in his comparisons of states with and without income taxes, yet selectively cites these measures in other studies when the story they tell fits his preferred narrative.

• More fundamentally, Laffer’s simplistic analysis fails to account for the fact that states without income taxes often choose not to levy such a tax precisely because they possess unusual economic advantages that allow them to raise revenue (and grow their
economies) in ways that other states cannot. In-state analysts and Laffer himself have correctly observed that factors like natural resources, federal military spending, and even favorable climate contribute to state economic growth. Many of these factors are of great  significance in states without income taxes, but while Laffer mentions them in the text of his reports, he makes no effort to control for them in his quantitative analyses.

If you own a home in Texas, you are essentially paying the same amount in property taxes as a state income tax.  The problem with the Texas property tax system is that it produces uneven results.  Property-rich districts spend far more per pupil than property-poor districts, despite the state's "Robin Hood" law which attempts to even things out.  Public education funding in Texas = fail.

Then there is Texas' obsession with standardized testing in public schools.  Students spend huge amounts of time preparing for standardized tests.  I hear this all the time from my co-workers.  With all that focus, of course they pass the tests, and graduate.  But that doesn't equal a good education.

Sorry, Wumpy -- Texas can do better.  But I hate to see what our crazy legislature will come up with this session.

Yawn

Migration statistics reveal that people are moving in droves to Texas. Why? Jobs and no state income taxes. High earning New Yorkers and Californians can take home between 9% and 11% more of their income by moving to Texas. Every trip down I speak to at least one bitter New Yorker/Californian fed up with high taxes and cost of living.

I wonder if anyone is moving to Pennsylvania?

This is not unique to Texas, every state has some sort of Standardized test that they are obsessed with ...gotta get that govt money. But yes I agree there is much room for improvement, but we still outrank Pennsylvania.

Forbes recently listed "The best cities for good jobs."

Four of the top five are in Texas (Seattle was the only non Texas city in the top five, woot woot).

I'm not one who usually speaks highly of the lone star state however, obviously the economy is doing well.  It does make me wonder though, are they attracting all these jobs by offering business low tax rates by slashing social services?

That just means that you're grading your students on a curve. SAT scores are, by nature, a level field for comparing students state by state. The fact that you don't realize this is an apt illustration of the disappointing education level of Texans.

ps: and now you're attempting to "move the goalposts" by comparing a city with an entire state. Further proof that you had a lobotomy when you were 12.
