A lot of negativity - Moving back home?
« on: July 12, 2012, 07:10:53 am »
I have been talking to a few persons from my home country to get a grasp on how it is to live as a poz back home and now Im hesitant to move back.

Healthcare is great and free but socially it seems like a disaster to be poz.

The majority in the support groups have been poz for decades and even thou they can give advice and all I find it hard to connect when it comes to life here and now in 2012. Their work focus on prevention, to not let more people catch this "dreadful and awful virus". This is good and believe me I support it but there seems to be very little "living" and joy, most of them do very well, but the atmosphere gives me self pity and hopelessness.

Since I live in a developing country now I have seen misery, real hardship and people with literally nothing, but they are not complaining and happy for what they got.

At home we have government funded disability allowance for poz people, free meds and basically all you can ask for, still the atmosphere seems so depressed among the pozzies that I wonder If I move back home and get organized my outlook on life will just go down the drain.

PS. I live in a small EU country and there is only some 5000 poz people or so. I have nothing against the peeps back home but I just want to find a way for it to work. I dont know really what Im asking but just wanted to throw it out there.

Can I ask which is your home country?

What exactly are your concerns? Having to pay for modern ARVs out of your own pocket? Health Care standards falling short in qualitative terms?

I live in India. The Govt gives free ARVs to all poz people (in accordance with the guidelines). Most of the pozzies happen to be poor (well obviously, poverty is ubiquitous in India). Since the Govt can easily get away with dispensing outdated drugs to (what it considers) 'dispensable sections of society', that's precisely what it does (Note: Certain news articles suggested this may be changing for the better, in the near future). Modern ARVs are available for sale in the market though, but one needs to pay for it themselves. Unless, of course you're lucky enough to find an insurance company to cover for it, which is quite a challenge in itself (Note: Certain news articles suggested this may be changing for the better, in the near future).

Is the situation somewhat similar in your country?

Hard to imagine all the "pozzies" of that 5000 are depressed and self-pitying, as you are describing.
Perhaps you can avoid that atmosphere by just doing your daily life, your job, your friends, your family.  Nothing says you have to hang out with the depressed lot!  Maybe visit, and try to spread some good energy, but if after a good try, its nonstop doom and gloom, just don't frequent these people. Nothing says you have to.

Otherwise, your culture is sunny and optimistic, and these dreary pozzies are the exception to the rule?
