Pomegranate juice makes an excellent martini mixer.

Sweet potato, sadly, not so much.

I love Pomegranet juice, but I thought it inhibited the uptake of PI's.

I eat most of those foods regularly, except for figs (I don't know how to use them) and chili peppers (I like them but not all the time). I would add acia to the list.

I had a fresh fig once. It was magnificent.

I thought blueberries were supposed to be another great fruit for the immune system?

I know that cranberries are good for the kidneys, and that in a pinch, you can use vodka as a window/floor/surface cleaner.

Figs:  buy dried figs bulk, slice in half lengthwise, shove a chunk of manchego cheese in the middle, toast long enough to melt the cheese a little, and eat 'em up!

Blueberries are on the list and they are wonderful... in moderation.

Sounds good! I'll try that.

Fresh figs rock.  Unfortunately, my fig trees did not bear any fruit, due to the scorching heat and lack of rain this summer.  As for pomegranates, I have about 2 dozen that I've plucked off the trees in my backyard over the past few weeks.  Been doing some research about whether there interfere with the uptake of medication, as Moffie described below, but I can't find anything conclusive.  I'm going to ask my doctor the next time I visit.

Perhaps this thread should be in the Nutrition and HIV forum?

Cheers,

Henry

is grapefruit, not pomegranate juice i believe. may increase plasma concentratiuons of some drugs including PIs & statins. you'd have to consume a fair bit though.

the power of naringenin, kaempferol n quercetin  :)

For the record, and for those who car,e grapefruit juice can also GREATLY increase the side effects of the PIs, albeit temporarily. Even months (or longer) after the side effects have dissipated.

So for those on Kaletra, that glass of Ruby Red might as well be imbibed in the bathroom.

I like everything on the list.

There is no life without chile peppers. I eat them at least once a day, many times several times a day.

Anybody have any good blueberry recipes?

HUGS,

Mark

I like everything on this list too.  However, I'm disappointed that chicken fried steak was not included.   :'(

I make a mean blueberry pie.  But the butter and sugar probably negate any beneficial effects of the blueberries.   ;)

Just do a google search for fig recipes. i love fresh figs. you should also be able to find some fig, rocket (i think you call it arugular) and prosciutto recipes. And, you can't go past baked figs as a desert. Yum.

I am happy to see that cinnamon is included.¨

Cinnamon
Known for making desserts sweet and Indian food complex, cinnamon is rich in antioxidants that inhibit blood clotting and bacterial growth (including the bad-breath variety). "Studies also suggest that it may help stabilize blood sugar, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes," says dietitian Nancy Clark, author of Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Guidebook (Human Kinetics, 1996). "What's more, it may help reduce bad cholesterol. Try half a teaspoon a day in yogurt or oatmeal."

I have been taking powdered cinnamon 4 X a day for over a year. I add a quater a teaspoon to my coffee. Just keep on stiring it until it dissolves and periodically while you drink your coffee/ fruit juice/milk etc. So that you get it all and that it does not remain at the bottom of the cup.
I know its gross but it sure beats the alternative of diarreah.

It must also be Indian cinnamon.

The problem with the cinnemon sticks is that its hard to eat enough sticks to make up the required dose. So the powder is easier.
It may not reduce cholestrol because since I went onto medication my cholestrol has increased significantly. Although If I was not taking it my cholestrol may be even higher I dont know.
I do know that it helps with ALL my stomache ailments.
No Diarreah and no constipation. As far as I am concerned its a mirrical food.

All the others I eat anyway. I  love dried figs.

Thanks for the list.  I have been using 8 out of 10 all my life so if I can just add green tea and pomegranates, I'm good:)

I chop up dried figs and throw them in the pot when making oatmeal or 10-grain cereal.  it sweetens the cereal naturally.  I add a good handful of trail mix on top after cooking (nuts, seeds, coconut, no chocolate, kind of trail mix).

Sweet potatoe pie is my favorite and I eat yams/sweet potatoes at least once a week.  Regular spuds seem so dull now by comparison.
