Anone from Indiana
« on: January 09, 2007, 04:59:41 am »
Hey this is my very first time on here. I have just found out that I am positive. I live in Indiana and just wanted to know who might live here. I went to a bath house where they were giving the test and the mouth swab and pin prick both came back positive. It has been three weeks now and today I am going to meet the guy who gave me the test for the final results that were sent off to be tested. I am single with only a couple of good friends to talk to that are also HIV+. I guess I would like to know where I go from here. If it is positive they said they will set me up with a care coordinator. I know the meds are expensive so any help would be great. I am not stressing out but kind of in the dark. Thanks Guys
Meds doing well so far.

I'm back living in Indiana.  Basically, once you've been definitively diagnosed as positive (they would have sent a sample of yours off for an ELISA/Western Blot), you can get set up with an infectious disease doctor.  If you don't mind telling me your general area (you don't have to get specific) I might know of some infectious disease doctors you can go to--you can PM me if you want to.  One thing they will do is check you out and start monitoring your CD4 count and viral load.  As for meds, when you start really depends on your counts and such.  Do you have insurance at all?  That is very helpful when it is time to start meds--unless you are rich, you won't be paying for them out of pocket.  If you are able to work, a good thing to do would be to get a job in a larger company that will offer health insurance--that is your best bet insurance wise.  If you don't have that option, there are things like ADAP, the drug companies often have prescription drug assistance programs, etc.
