Haaay. I'm officially out of crap to read and everyone I ask isn't giving me any suggestions really so I'm just asking here before I forget. I get free books from Bookmooch so I've been using that a lot. D:

I'd really like... books that have a series so I have something consistant to read if I run out of stuff again, but it's not neccesary.

I reaaaally like:
Horror
Vampires
Werewolves
Animals
Dragons
Fantasy
Gay stuff (lol!)

But feel free to suggest other stuff that's just good. Yeah. So. Heeelp.

Thanks for making me go over to my book shelf and dust off something.  I found a copy of Reports from the Holocaust by Larry Kramer.  I think I bought it 15 years ago and never read it.  Embarrassing, really -- I own Faggots and read that one.  I should re-read it as well.

I also found Beyond Carnival: Male Homosexuality in Twentieth-Century Brazil and it looks like I only ever got to page 49.

I usually stick with history books myself, and am currently reading one on pre-Columbian civilizations.

I think that you might like "Bloodsucking Fiends" and "You Suck" by Christopher Moore both of which offer a slightly unusual take on vampires ...

I know Everyone has probably read the series...TALES OF THE CITY ...by Armistead Maupin.  But if you havent....its really wonderful.  It originally was published as a serial story in a San Francisco neswpaper.  And it became a film.  Who could ask for anything more!
Armstead Maupin also wrote THE NIGHT LISTENER....a creepy story of someone who is HIV positive...or is he????

I have been wondering about that too.. but I don't think I have come across any materials saying that he is. I certainly hope he's neg and healthy.

I just finished "Michael Tolliver Lives" too.. I bought it before my diagnosis but just left it sitting on my bookshelf for weeks, then I picked it up the night of my confirmation test and I finished reading it within 2 days. Honestly I don't think it's one of his better books and I don't like the ending very much. But I couldn't help but having this warm feeling while reading about the latest "news" of Mouse, Anna, Brain et al and I kept waiting for Mary Ann to appear. They are like real people that I have known from the past but have lost contact with.. and now they're all coming back to visit. Oh, there's a new and major character who's female-to-male transgender too.

Since we're talking about Maupin.. how about Edmund White. "The Beautiful Room is Empty" is a classic!

Speaking of Edmund White, Jaser might very well enjoy reading "A Boy's Own Story" -- it's really somewhat poignant in that it's about a young person coming of age with homosexuality.  I read it eons ago and still have my copy, and recall it as being quite touching.

And how dare we forget "The Naked Civil Servant"! :)  or even "Dancer from the Dance"?

Animals-  The White Bone, Barbara Gowdy, is a creative read from the point of view of African elephants.  The writing style is lyrical and smart.

Gay-  Querelle, Jean Genet.  Story about a sailor who is an assassin, deals in opium, and thief.  This is a classic.

Vampires (I have not read her books) but what about Anne Rice series?

And horror being what?  scary boogies or horror as in insane killer (Devil in the white city).

Two more excellent selections from my library:

The Jack Wrangler Story (or What's a Nice Boy Like You Doing?) ... little did I know that this old paperback is worth $70-129 on amazon.  (if you don't know who Jack is you better be hittin' that google button)

The Hustler by John Henry MacKay, originally published in the 1920's it tells the story as a rare period piece of the gay underground of Berlin at the time.  As a story of an older gay man's attraction to a teen age prostitute *cough* (I'm sure that's applicable to some of our more endearing board members here...)
