Need advice
« on: October 15, 2012, 12:15:33 pm »
Hello all:

I had a low risk exposure on 9/26/12. I was a receptive partner in oral sex, he did not ejaculate in my mouth but got some in my eye and on my face. I washed my eye out and cleaned my face. I was not worried about it until I started getting sick on the following Sunday 9/30 - went to the doctor and found that I was in the beginning stages of a sinus infection.  I also advised him of the concern and he stated that HIV risk was very low, but other STI are quite common and gave me an antibodic that would cover both the infection and any other oral issues, ie.  gonorrhea and chlamydia. I have finished it, but still sick and now my anxiety is running wild.

Still have a sore throat, a fever  101.5, a few light headaches, plus right side of my neck is sore about 2 inches below my ear and it very tender to the touch.

So my questions are:

1) do agree with the doctor on the risk assessment?

2) should I go get tested or would it be to soon?

I also want to add that I also ONLY have safe protected anal sex at all times!!

New, it's good to know you are generally regularly following safer sex principles which means always using condoms for anal (and vaginal) intercourse. The latter when unprotected are the only two confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV.

Your symptoms are strictly coincidental because nothing you have reported would have put you at risk for HIV. Our focus here is strictly on HIV, so it's good that your doctor checked you out for other possible STDs.

If any symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor. You do not have a problem with HIV. And there is  no need for HIV testing.

ok, now I am a little worried. I have been reading that HIV could casue a false positive on the Mono test. I specfically told my the doc about my concern with HIV and he didnt seem to be concened. just curious if you guys know if this is possible for the false positive or is my mind just  over thinking it.

From the scenario you described there was no HIV risk.

Sorry about the mono though. Had that a long time ago. Took me down to half energy for about three months.
