Risk at a concert...
« on: September 24, 2006, 02:33:26 pm »
Hello...yesterday I went to this concert I was under the influence of alcohol, not wasted but loose.

While I was dancing I wanted to smoke a cigarette so I asked a guy next to me if I could have one. He pulled out a cigarette and gave it to me, and I realized he had dried blood on his knuckles and maybe even on his fingers, I dunno,I did not see his palms. The blood was dried/drying, it was not dripping or wet, although it was not brown, it was still a reddish color. I didn't really care cuz i was drunk so I smoked the cigarette.

Later on I realized I had a canker sore in my mouth on the back of my tongue and I also had a hangnail on my finger. I'm wondering if I have put myself at risk and need to get tested based on this incident?

This is not an HIV concern. Please read the "Welcome" and follow the link to Lessons, then read transmission.

Are you sure? Cuz I'm thinking maybe there was blood on the cigarette when I put it on my lips and in my mouth and smoked it and then it could have gotten into my canker sore or something, or maybe it got into my hangnail...?

Can you explain to me why please?

I'm also wondering if maybe someone poked me with a needle while I was dancing and didn't realize it...how do you know what a mark from such an incident looks like?

I don't understand why not...if blood could have directly gotten into my fresh hangnail  or  my canker sore in my mouth, isn't that contact?

You can get blood in your canker sore and all of your hangnails it still isn't a risk. I will not continue to entertain you "what if" scenarios.

Okay, that's fair.

I'd also just like to know the scientific reasoning.

But could I at least know what to look for as evidence you've been poked with a needle or a syringe or something?

I just got a piercing yesterday

I went to this place and they said they always use unused needles and completely sterilized equipment.

When I went back there to get the job done the lady kept washing her hands and replaced her gloves two times, and the needle and equipment that she used to pierce me were all wrapped in this packaging and she said they sterilize everything and kill all the bacteria and place them in these packages so that they stay clean and that I should always make sure in the future that whenever I get a piercing done they do it like that, that all the equipment is in unopened packaging and such.

I didn't see any blood or anything on the equipment and everything was packaged and she used gloves and all that but I'm wondering if HIV could have still lived on the needle and the clamp that she used to pierce me and I could have trasnmitted something?

Also how should I go about kissing/oral sex with someone since I have this piercing now?

One,

It sounds like you have nothing to worry about over your piercing. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and it is hep C, rather than hiv, that this place has the precautions they take in place for. They are doing everything correctly, going by your descriptions and you do not need to worry.

As far as your pierced lip and infections go, hiv is NOT transmitted through kissing so no worries there. As long as your lip is healed up before you let it come into contact with any other person's body, you don't need to worry about anything, hiv or otherwise. In the meantime, it is bacterial infections you need to worry about, not hiv. While your lip is healing, keep it clean and follow the aftercare instructions you were given by the people who did the piercing.

Here's all you need to know (other than what is contained in the links in the Welcome Thread, which I trust you read the first time you were here):

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Am I at risk for smoking a cigarette after someone after piercing my lip?

No, there is no risk of HIV infection from smoking a cigarette after you've had your lip (or anything else for that matter) pierced. It's all in the Welcome Thread.

Well I just found out that I have very sensitive/tender gums especially on the bottom back of my mouth....I'm wondering if sharing a cigarette with a friend could put me at risk if they had blood in their mouth and it got on the cigarette and into my mouth near my own bloody gums...

Or if the crusty secretions from the whole in my lip coulda mixed with the germs on the cigarette and transmitted that way...

My boyfriend also tried to kiss me that night but I turned my head and his lips lightly brushed my piercing

My boyfriend and I were fooling around and he was finering me then I worried if maybe he had fucked me and I didn't realize it and thought it was his finger and then I got tested7 weeks later and it came out negative

One,

It's not surprising that your test result was negative as you haven't had a risk of infection.

Believe me, you'd know the difference between a dick and a finger.

Air kills blood born viruses ,air tight  places keep them alive longer . But i am no expert and i would suggest that with your fears to the virus  stay inside ,from reading your post, that you definitly need to  {a}be reasured at every normal adult activity ...or {b} it is your objective to prove that it can be caught anyway you have dreamed up . Which leads me to believe that neither you need to be exposed to population ,nor they to you.
