6 Weeks After Atripla (Sharing News)

Hi everyone,
I just want to share news with everyone here and enjoy this with all those who are afraid of side effects. I been on atripla for 6 weeks and i got my first lab work done on 12-31-2008 and i call the doctor today to find out that my VL has decrease form 105K to 221 (what an improvement don't you think). I was afraid to star the meds and i waited for 3 months because all the bad feedback that i read and i am sure some people experience side effects but this is just my story. I never had  a side effect(no rash or crazy dreams) I think that the first night that i took the pill i set mu self to experience side effects more than what really was. Also there has been 3 or 4 Saturdays that i have gone out with my friends as usual and enjoy my self and take my pill around 1:30 am (usually at 10:30pm every night) so i have had nights where it wasn't exactly at the same time and it seems to be working. Don't be afraid to start taking meds like i was.......These days things seem to be much easier than what it was years ago,HIV still at the same risk of having an OI and take away your life so shy take that risk if you can prevent it.
I also want to thank all those who gave the support (don't want to mention any names so that i don't miss anyone but you know who you are), your emails and words have made this much easier....I know i am just starting on a long road ahead of me but with people like you things are much easier and there is light at the end of that road!!!
Is amazing how we can overcome our fears and issues just by having someone to talk about.....I do realize the CD count remain the same but my doctor told me that he wasn't really expecting those babes to go up since his priority was to make sure that the medications is working and to get my VL down!

Basically, don't be afraid to start meds and if atripla don't work for you something else will but you have to take the first step and we are here for you (we are in this together)

Wow great improvement!
I am currently on combivir and sustiva but they have recently switched me to atripla.  I was waiting for my refills on my current meds to run out before I started it.  I know that crazy dreams are the least of my worries since it has the sustiva in it, I am worried of any other side effects I may have.  Hopefully I will see a nice change in my numbers, not that mine are bad to start.

Yes you will like i did!
I do believe that side effects might decrease depending on how well you treat your self (that is just me).
I eat healthy, lots of cardio and weights. also take daily multivitamins and green tea as well as acai berry and pomegranate juice and Acidophilus and Bifidus.
as you can see i take lost of pills  ;D :D ;) so one more to me is nothing...I have been taking these supplements for a very long time and drink lost of water.

i too was nervous of the side effects.  started atripla 10 days ago.  so far, so good.  no side effects at all other than sleeping like a log - when i crash, i'm out.  hopefully, will continue the same.  find out the progress 1/27

Hi,

you should try to stay within 2-3 hours of your regular time. If you regular time is 10:30pm then try not go to beyond 1:30am. Also, if you go out and you drink there is a higher chance that you will forget to take your pill when you're back home, or if you stay at someone's place you won't get a chance to take your pill before you are back.

I would suggest that you always keep an "emergency pill" in your wallet, just in case you are not going to be home at the expect time. I have one in my wallet, and 3 in my car in case I go somewhere and I am stuck there for the week-end.

You could make some experiments at home and see if you have no side effects when taking Atripla and drinking. I have none with alcohol, but I feel dizzy for about 30mn if I take Atripla and eat at the same time. If you have no side effects then take the pill before going out; it's more important than waking up the next day and having forgotten it.

Thank you for the advice! i really appreciate it!
I am not much of a drinker, i limit my self to 4 drinks when i go out and i always take the pill with me and have a bottle of water in between drinks and i have been very cautious of not going over 1:30AM no matter what. I have thought about taking it before going out but afraid of getting dizzy, i guess i should try that!

Congrats and thanks for the update.  I too have been on Atripla  for a short time, since Nov 08.  I was very scared and worried at first, but no side effects came my way.

I will have my first follow-up next week and look for good results.

Well i have an update on my saga!
2ND lab work done on 03-31-2009
VL is undetectable
CD4 count increase from 190 to 308!!  ;) :D ;D :)
today is a good day, i no longer have to take that bactrim
