We've combined some boards
« on: April 06, 2007, 11:23:21 am »
In order to make things a little easier on all of us (members and moderators), we've combined three of our previous boards:  Treatment Questions, Side Effects, and Lipodystrophy.  All the previous threads in these 3 forums are now in "Questions About Treatment & Side Effects."

Since we've been adding forums recently, we thought a little consolidation might help as well.

I think that's a great idea.  Been wondering about that.  I had some posts about Crestor recently and wasn't really sure whether they belonged in one forum or the other.  Sounds like some good organization to me.

I've made this thread a temporary sticky because as was pointed out in another thread, announcement threads often drop quickly down the page before everyone has had the chance to see them. I'll unstickie it in a week or so.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

The following is a C&P of the post I made in another thread which discusses the forum merger. Matt (Newt) was concerned about the ease of finding threads relating to Lipo, now that the Lipo threads are scattered in amongst the other threads.

As for hunting lipo posts down in the newly merged forum, the search function is quite good. You can even search in the newly created forum only by clicking on the "Choose a board to search in, or search all" link at the bottom of the search page. Uncheck the check all box and check the box next to "Questions About Treatment & Side Effects".

If you enter lipo* under "search for" and do not check either of the options ("Show results as messages" and "Search in topic subjects only") you will get every single lipo thread created since the new forums began - all four pages.

The same technique will work for any subject.

Just wanted to put in my two cents and say that I think that the forum merger is a bad idea.  It's now much harder to find posts that are specific to lipodystrophy/lipoatrophy.  This reminds me of what happened some time ago on thebody.com.  They simply dropped their lipodystrophy forum, and now there's no easy way to ask questions about lipo.  Sad to see that the same thing has happened here.  It was nice to have a place to go to find out the latest about lipo, without having to search through tons of threads having to do with treatment side effects and other things.  This change has made the forum much less useful for me.

Doubt that this will change anyone's mind, but thought I'd at least sound off.

John

BTW, one last comment.  The announcement that you were closing the lipodystrophy forum must not have been posted in the lipo forum before it was closed.  Either that or it wasn't posted very long, since I check almost every day.  It would have been helpful to have heard about this in advance.

Thanks,

John
